Producer with Windows 7

Postby m3lvino on 02 Dec 2009, 00:58

Hi,

OK, heres whats happening:

After setting everything up you load a tune and basically the Timecode quality starts dropping to the low 90's/high 80's and then drops further to between 45% -70%.

Obviously by then the sound starts to 'glitch/drop/cut' etc - general uselessness

I have an Intel P4 3GHZ and 3 gigs of ram along with a decent asus mobo etc so no problem there!

I've tried various versions of MV and Maudio have only just managed to release the driver for Windows 7 from the beta to the full version quite recently.

I am trying to work out what is causing my issue, Its either the driver or the MV version?

I know its one of these two factors, I have a dual boot config and I run MV version 7.010 with an older Maudio delta driver under XP SP3 with absolutely no issues what so ever!

I guess with my Dual boot config, its fine for now but would be nice to drop XP as this issue is the only reason I have not ditched XP completely.

If there is absolutely anything else you need to know please ask, or if anyone has had this issue and managed to solve it please let me know! Maybe a clue to the overall instability is when Im checking out other windows whilst mv is running, the sound is clicking and popping like a bowl of rice krispies ;) I have a decent GFX card too (ATI 800XT Platinum - not the newest card on the block but is running on the most up to date drivers and was £300 a few years back - its still quite capable for basic task like that)

Finally one other really annoying thing on the latest version of Mixvibes under Windows 7 and this is on a par with it not actually working properly in terms of a high frustration factor...

WHY cant you grab a folder full of tunes and drop them in the Mediabase?? This is crazy!!! Only way to get music in is to right click then add music one file at a time or one file at a time using the explorer.....

I really hope you guys can give me some feedback :)

right click on the folder in Mixvibes explorer & click scan, then your files are inside your media base.

Producer, DVS, Vfx, Cross are tested everyday on Windows7 without problems.
It seems you have some setup problems. Did you put windows property on preference to background service (Asio is a background service)
More to come about your other questions...

This is the first Producer release, a lot of bugs have been found since & corrected... (like the scan from Mixvibes explorer.)
I use also a dual boot & it works fine. In your config report I see that you use now version 7.218 & that's the good version before a new update soon (december?)

You need to tune your computer. Which services are running? Msn? Wi-fi?

I agree
Check the latency of your computer with DPC latency checker

The DPC Latency Checker tool site wrote: If any kernel-mode device driver in your Windows system is implemented improperly and causes excessive latencies of Deferred Procedure Calls (DPCs) then probably drop-outs will occur when you use real-time audio or video streaming applications. For an explanation of this effect see Background information below.

The DPC Latency Checker tool determines the maximum DPC latency that occurs on your Windows system and thus enables you to check the real-time capabilities of your computer. DPC Latency Checker works independent of any external hardware. Using this tool may be helpful in the following situations:
You experience interruptions (drop-outs) in a flow of data processed in real-time, for example an audio stream, video stream or a sequence of measuring data, and you want to find out the reason for this problem. You want to verify that your Windows system is configured properly so that it is capable of handling real-time data transfer before you install the corresponding streaming application. You want to check if a particular computer system is suitable for streaming applications, for example before you buy this system. For more information on the Deferred Procedure Call mechanism and how an excessive DPC latency will affect a streaming application see Background information below.

Hi m3lvino,

I'm currently using Win7 (x64) without any issues. I just tried dropping a music folder into my mediabase and it works just fine. Do you have UAC on by any chance?

The clicks and pops are most likely caused by having too many things open. Have you tried using the ASIO4ALL drivers?

Hope this helps a bit,
Phaded

Right Johnny!
m3lvino you need to stop the UAC in windows user control panel in the configurations files before anything!
