Mixvibes doesn't read Id3v2 properly.

Postby SebastianB on 04 Dec 2008, 20:53

First: I've got id3v2 ticked and id3v1 unticked.

So i've got this strange issue, after changing something in mp3 id3v2 tag, mixvibes doesn't display any tags (other applications do!) - see the attachment. Whole story is there :)

Sometimes I can edit some fields in tag and mixvibes display it, but in most cases editing anything causes the effect shown on attached story or different strange effect (only some part of fields is ok and some are not)

So to add key value or change comment is really hard to do sometimes.

Any ideas? :)

Hi Seabastian,

I have been here with the same problems, i use Rapid Evolution to key my music and sort out the tags to make it easier to manage my music with the features of mixvibes (don’t have Cross yet, lol)...

With Rapid Evolution you can change the tag writer in the options, there is an option of 3 different ones however the default configuration does write tags fine which are readable from most software’s and Windows its self... but not Mixvibes.

The solution for me was changing the tag editor to the JD3 editor which Mixvibes doesn’t seem to have a problem with... so for now you could have a look through the options in your preferred software and see if there is a similar option to change the tag writer.

I’m guessing that Mixvibes doesn’t support all available tagging types written by various software’s, maybe this is something the Mixvibes team can look into for future updates.
I hope this information is useful to you,

Regards
Bryan

I also use Rapid Evolution for keys :) I changed the tag writer options and Mixvibes displays correctly tags after changes made in RE.

But there is still an issue, Rapid Evolution doesn't write comment field :/ No matter what I type there, after saving tag and putting mp3 into mixvibes (or mediamonkey) comment isn't changed. Even after deleting mp3 from RE and uploading it there one more time comment field stays the same as it was before "writing".

And another one: see the attachement. If tag contains some fields that MV doesn't read (like key accuracy field which is added by Rapid Evolution) it is displayed in comments.

I’m guessing that Mixvibes doesn’t support all available tagging types written by various software’s, maybe this is something the Mixvibes team can look into for future updates.

Yes it definitely needs improvement.

Thanks for your help Bryan!

Give me 10 mins and i’ll install rapid evo on this machine, there is options to tell the tag writer what fields to write and im sure that the comments field is off by default. I always clear my tags first and rewrite them to insure i only end up with the information i actually want..

Al be back in a mo’ffo

Yo Sebastian,

I see the comment field is checked by default, i have tested writing a tag and it writes the comments field as it should..

What version of rapid do you have and have you tried clearing the tags before rewriting them freash?

I'm running RE 2.11.5

I forgot I switched off writing to comments...
But now I switched it on, and it works with some of my mp3 and doesn't with other. I suppose that it is connected with that I modified some of them previously and id3v2 system is messed up.

Mp3pro has this option to display all fields that mp3 has got written in tag, and my (fresh from beatport) had:

comment: DJ tools -
comment: purchased in beatport
comment id3v1 comment: DJ tools -

After changing comment in RE (it displayed "purchased in beatport" comment) it looks like this:

comment: DJ tools -
comment: purchased in beatport
comment: BLA BLA BLA
comment id3v1 comment: DJ tools -

And mixvibes displays this in comment: "Purchased at Beatport.comDJ Tools - DJ Tools -BLA BLA BLA"

So writing everything from scratch would be the best solution I hope. Bryan, do you have some system to do this quick effectively? Not to type everything field after field.

Yes, lol... Rapid Evolution!
Here is how to do it,

Load all your tunes into Rapid Evolution so that it reads the existing tag information, then in the window containing all of your songs select/highlight the first track then hit “CTRL+A” on your keyboard (it should now have selected/highlighted all your tracks.

Now right click any one of the highlighted tracks and select “tags/remove”, this will clear the tag information saved in the .mp3 files but keep the already loaded information in Rapid Evolution... it will come back and say "0 of xx tags removed" i dont know why it says this but it does remove the tags.

After the remove process has finished confirm all the tracks are still highlighted, then right click any one of the highlighted tracks again and select “tags/write”, this will return all the tag information back to the .mp3 files while making sure all the tags are of the same specification.

Dada, your done.

Just out of curiosity, in your options tab in MV, do you have both ID3v1 and ID3v2 checked?

only Id3v2..

if your nervous about doing the tags copy a bunch of tunes n try it on them first to make sure you get it right.. then go ahead n doo your main track collection.

Oh okay cool, I remember there being some issues with tag reading if you had both checked.
