Playlist system update ETA?

Postby djcookiejar on 29 Nov 2015, 03:56

Any idea when the playlist system will be revamped to not rely on the android file ID system? I'd like to start playlisting all my tracks again, but last time I did, it was all wiped away when I removed my SD card

That's strange bcuz I've got all my music on the sd card and removed it and did a copy on an other larger sd card and everything was still fine when i put it in.

It isn't strange for both situations.

Both tracks as playlists are maintained via the mediabase. The updating of the mediabase is triggered by a few circumstances. These may feel to be random.

There isn't to much of a chance the mediabase is replaced by an alternative as it would take significant storage. Increase of storage at smart devices seems to have come to a hold (generally).

So the best would be to not take out the sd. And if you do to do it while power is of.
Also be aware that syncing tracks may result in the similar issue. If e.g. Tags have been updated on either side the mediabase might remove the old entry.

The fact that there is even a chance of this happening (with no mechanism to restore the playlists if it does) makes me very hesitant to spend all that time building up the playlists again and indeed I haven't done so.. which makes DJing much more difficult, with all the songs scattered and/or lumped together.

I guess I should give up on this feature and start organizing into folder structure, and have to duplicate song files that Cross over into multiple "playlists"

I would pay extra for a utility that could restore playlists via title or other metadata matching up to the files on the device/card

For the record... I didn't just remove my card... I also played the music on it from a different device (Mifa F1). Not a common thing, but I do tend to use my sd card for other things e.g. music players, cameras, file transfer etc. when necessary, and from what I understand, Android could decide to rebuild the index for whatever reason. The time it takes to playlist hundreds of tracks is too great to risk it just vanishing into nothing. If you've done this, beware!

 I've got a new thing that would be better... howzabout Cross DJ backs up playlists into a small file which uses title and/or other file data, then if playlists disappear, it can recover them by scouring the device for the tracks.. or even better, use an existing standard playlist format.. again generating a separate file which would then be transferable to other software e.g. Serato crates... o ya, that would kick ass!! :D

You can use other apps for playlist management. That may be closest to what you want...
Not likely Cross will design a new standard for this as it would require influence to future Android versions.

Can you recommend a playlist app that uses the same system as Cross which offers back ups? Also.. what about the star rating? I (and others I know) use that in other song organizing systems to rate the energy of a track... why is it omitted in CrossDj?

For the record, I did some research and think that Playlist Manager is the ticket https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ager&hl=en

It can do bulk actions and has a backup feature that costs a buck! :D I use it with Music Folder Player to preview the tracks right in the Manager... well I've got my work cut out for me!

I would still like to see the star ratings... I know it's not that common for android players, but Rocket Player supports it from what I understand... I also stumbled across this thread which shows that A LOT of people use it (and were pretty pissed when Google Play switched to thumbs up/down) https://productforums.google.com/forum/ ... wKmVF5N5YA

As always, kuddos for a great DJ app
