Playlists empty after copying music files to SD card

Postby Definite Jiving on 22 Jun 2015, 07:32

The many playlists I've made over the past months are all empty after I added music files to the SD card. This represents a lot of work that seems to be gone! The playlist titles are still there, but when I click on them they are not populated with the music tracks.

I read that playlists are stored elsewhere on the phone. What do I need to do to repopulate the lists with tracks?

I'm on Cross DJ for Android, on Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

(I see that my History of previous DJ sessions is also completely empty!)

Could you please explain some more on the copying.

Cross uses the android Mediabase as source for the tracks. If you copied tracks from your device mem to the SD then you basically created new tracks in the mediabase. If next you deleted the files at the device mem you removed the tracks that were in the playlists...

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

I copied files from computer to the SD card, and overwrite some files. I didn't (intentionally) touch any files on the device.

Using a file manager, I searched for 'playlists'. The folders I discovered areare all empty now, with 0 bytes of days in them. Clearly, these were erasederased; but i don't understand why.

Or to put it another way, how can I transfer music to my SD card without erasing all my playlists?

The safest way would be to use a sync function. As audio tracks often are changed by programs (edit of file tags) you best use a sync based on file name, ignoring time stamp or any other file attributes.

In the mediabase at Android any difference results in a new entry.
I suggest you give it a try before recreating all playlists. I haven't tried, but if I'm right apps exist to export playlists in Android which also may be the Cross playlists.

In the end it sounds easy to be able to exchange files between various OS's but in reality there's a lot of hurdles to tackle for smooth usage...
