Android - Cross DJ and U-Mix Control Pro (not 2)

Postby Ed Altounian on 23 Sep 2014, 21:04

I cannot get the audio to work. I've run the audio to the audio in jacks on the back and nothing. The MIDI works fine, but no audio.

I've tried Normal, Split and Mixer modes. I get audio in normal mode out of the tablet, but nothing into the U-Mix.

Any suggestions?

Audio cannot be send via otg connector. Limitation of Android. Next android version will have more options for audio. First Google will have to release it. Only then the dev team can integrate it.

And you will have to wait if your device will be receiving this part of the Android update by the manufacturer.

So the version 1.5 added MIDI. Not audio...

The s4 mini, as opposed to the s4, does not seem to support usb OTG. OTG isn,t just a software feature, it needs the connector to be physically connected to something that controls the connected usb device in hardware AND a kernel that supports USB OTG:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go

Many cheaper phones don't have these physical connections built into their hardware (for cost saving reasons I guess). Some phones and tablets have the hardware, but no OTG support built into their kernel. In this case you might be able to find a custom kernel that does, but I'm afraid that the s4 mini doesn't have the hardware built into it. It is kind of hard to tell though, because there is no comprehensive list for all android devices and that some devices have the hardware but no kernel support further complicates the issue.

I found some pretty useful reference though, sandisk tells us which devices are compatible to their usb flash readers and therefore must have usb OTG:

Your story is more or less right. But even when it is present it is not officially supported by android.... expected in next version.

Wouldn't a list of devices with working usb OTG (tested by users), if only for MIDI purposes at the moment, be a good idea? Maybe as a sticky?

I've tried Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 yesterday with the U-Mix Controller, both worked like a charm.

Even though it sounds nice it will be outdated pretty soon.

A lot more details might be involved in exclusive description of a device. So having a 'type x' may work for one user, but an other user has a slightly different 'type x'.

And in a short term it will be generally supported... providing manufacturers and/or resellers add the feature to their distributed update.... per model... or not...

That there are a few hardware variants of different devices is true, but what manufacturers like samsung do is swap out one soc for another in different regions to better support local needs. This doesn't usually interfer whith the capability of having usb otg available physically.

Even when propper usb audio is baked into all android 5.0 devices one would still need physical otg support to access said functions. And with something like otg beeing so inconvenient, you need special cables/adaptors and possibly an external power suppply, and it's appeal very niche, I guess physical otg support will never become a commodity like bluetooth or gps integration, so a list could indeed be useful. But it's your forum not mine, so you make the rules.

Hi guys, is possible to connect the U-Mix Control Pro 1 together with the tablet (Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-H) - Cross DJ for android? or be functioning Cross DJ for android only with U-Mix Control Pro 2? It wrote me "no device detected" :(
Thanx for your help. Peter

Based upon the names I would expect both to work.

Connect OTG cable from device to a powered USB hub. Connect U-Mix Control Pro to the powered hub....
Is this how you set it up?

BTW don't know if OTG function works for your device.. Depending on manufacturer.
