Tutorial: importing sound sets without having to use mic

Postby danakers on 04 Jul 2014, 14:27

Currently, I'm having to use Cross DJ on my Xperia Z tablet, and my smartphone for drop-ins and sound effects I use during my sets.

This is because I can't import existing WAV / MP3 files into the sound set 'wall'. Therefore, the only samples available to me are those supplied with the app (essentials, scratch, space, synths, vocals etc).

Recording via the mic is the only other available option, but I have lots of samples I'd have to record in which would take time and the quality would be awful.

Is there any way of allocating existing audio files (from albums and playlists views, for example) to the sound set pads?

Thanks,

Dan

Just answered my own question, so hopefully this will be useful to others...

* Plug your tablet into your computer
* On your computer, go into the tablet's Internal Storage folder
* Go to Android / Data / com.mixvibes.crossdjapp / files / Samples
* Open one of the existing folders (dancefloor, for example)
* Copy presets.json to your desktop
* Go back to the Samples folder
* Create a new folder (whatever you want to call your sample bank)
* Copy the audio files you want into it
* Rename them as you want them to appear on the buttons
* Open the presets.json file on your desktop
* Change the list of filenames to those you've just put into the folder
* Delete any filenames left in the list
* Be careful not to delete anything you shouldn't!
* Save the file and copy it into the folder on your tablet containing the new samples - you may be prompted to overwrite the existing file - choose yes

Once you go back into Cross DJ, you'll find your new sample bank waiting for you.

I've tried MP3 files rather than OGG (the format of the stock samples) and they work perfectly.

Hope this is helpful.

Dan

** UPDATE **

OGG files may allow for quicker loading times than MP3, as I've found it takes a while to open the sound sets when you're using MP3s. However this is possibly also down to the file size / quality.

Excellent work around. Just wish we didn't need to do this workaround. Thanks a lot though.
