I don't think as a betatester you need to do any reverse engineering.

This subject is known by the team and the team is working step by steps. Our betatester P_Jean demonstrated a year ago that MIDI functions need to be more functional in different configurations.
He pointed out the sysdex needed to communicate with high range controller.

Steps by steps an efficient work is done by the dev team. The version you test now include many request of P-Jean and other users.

Last year with version 2.1 and iOS Lemur for iPad more than 650 functions were mapped.
With this version 2.5 many new functions are ready for mapping.

In a couple of days version 2.5 beta 2 will be on download. It should include the mapping of the ddjsx.
I wish you to read it's mapping and understand it. Also you will have a drawing of the ddjsx showing how to use now the ddjsx with Cross.

Believe me, the Remote way of communicating with Cross is completely dedicated and not re-usable at all...
Currently (and from what I know), the only MIDI controllers handling text are some Denon ones. These are partially implemented in Cross (could be finalized if it'd become really wanted and used).
If you're looking for a solution to get text over MIDI, you might follow their spec, but you'll rapidly understand that MIDI was not made for text ...

I was looking into text to import track information into Ableton so that complete mixing sessions could be recorded, with track information, similar to how Serato's "Bridge" works, minus the fact that it's not implemented well. OSC text would still be helpful :-)
