yeah should be. but in my schematic the led has
wrong polarity >I
it must be:
-----w------I<----_I_-------
---resistor---led---button----

Ah this is why you're sorry
Thank you SO MUCH marxon. you've been very helpful. I'll annoy you again as soon as i get my hands on the controller :)

but keep working step by step,
please check first the circuit layout like MusicMeister described.
before it's all just guesswork

Actually, it might not be the wrong polarity. ;)

Depends on if the values are switched hot or switched ground. ;) And if the voltage/current across the pad is sufficient to drive the LED.

Of course, you could always use a secondary power source for the LED... But if that's even necessary is all dependent on the existing circuit and the specifics...

The easiest thing to do would be to use a double pole switch and use the second set of poles to activate the LEDs when you push down. Now the trick would be getting arcade buttons that are double pole instead of single pole.

That one was really confusing. how much do these switches cost? In what case do i need them? sanwa arcade buttons are double pole buttons?
How can i test my circuit to see if the leds will light up?

Sorry about that - didn't mean for it to be confusing.

Part of my comments are driven because I'm more paranoid than most. :)
cinq wrote:Can much do these switches cost?

I have no idea if they're even available or what they cost.

cinq wrote:In what case do i need them?

If the existing circuit is incapable of supporting the power necessary to light the LED's but there is more than one way to skin a cat or to make the LED's light up. ;)

cinq wrote: sanwa arcade buttons are double pole buttons?

No idea... but if I had to guess they're:
SPST NO Momentary

Single Pole Single Throw Normally Open Momentary switches. :D

Start by measuring the voltage - and then with proper polarity see if you can get an LED to light up. You'll need to use a fairly low wattage LED though because current is limited. You want to make sure if you hit all the buttons at once you don't cook anything.

If you're using the USB port only to power this circuit then you'll need to keep the total current for the entire device to under 500mA (1/2 Amp) - but it's hard to tell how much it's already drawing. For that you'd have to hack a USB cable and measure the current.

There are LOTS of ways to get what you want and in all honesty, I think I got into the weeds and I shouldn't have.

Start by making the buttons work. :)

Then worry about the LED's. ;)

Step by step then. one thing at a time.
I'll probably do a live log or some in this topic in order to help and get helped.

Maybe with realtime support via Teamview, Skype, rtpMIDI

Happy new year!
