Hello fellow vibers'
_ Seeking database file management wisdom _
(ps... this may be off board topic a bit, but I can't figure out how to activate posting to the tech support zone yet, despite having my serial number in now ... sorry about that).
I'm setting up my CrossDJ app and have a question which I'm sure others have figured out ...
I have an external media drive that contains all the mp3s I intend to DJ from (I have a lot of iTunes integration as well, playlists, etc).
The drive is usually plugged into my studio's large screen iMac, which is the best place for me to setup CrossDJ, work out mixes, etc...
At the same time, I have to do DJ gigs from my 13" Macbook. Its easy enough to unplug the media drive from the iMac and plug it into the Macbook – but what about all those database files sitting on the iMac?
QUESTION: I was wondering if there's a way to program CrossDJ to store its database files on the external media drive? Then, whether I'm gigging on the Macbook, or setting up things on the iMac ... I'm working with the same set of database files.
... OR is there some danger to the Macbook and the iMac both writing the same files at different time.
Both machines are running the same OS (10.6.8) and I switch the controller (Hercules MK4) back and forth between both.
Thanks for taking the time to look over my query!

Yes, you can create a folder in the external hdd and "drive" Cross (from: Preferences\General tab and select this new folder in "Peak Files Directory") to store Peak files there. You can also create a new folder so you can store your mediabase in external hdd too.

Thanks for the feedback. From what I have discovered with your help, these are the files/folders that need to be located onto the external hard drive:
01) File / Preferences / General Tab: Peak Files Directory option [Browse to the external hard drive & select: OK]
– this appears to be a one-time setting and is retained after.
02) File / Open Collection / browse to external hard drive and open the database file: Cross DJ.crossdb [OK]
- this appears to be something I need to do at the beginning of each Cross DJ session.
The above seems to be working fine. If you're doing something different, let me know ... or if there are any other files or folders I haven't discovered that should be included (or any tips and tricks related to this)?
Thanks again for the advice!

Following on from this, is it possible to install Cross/Cross DJ onto an external hard drive as well as storing the collection and media on there, so it's almost like a Linux Live CD and can be plugged in and used anyhwhere?
I'm guessing not if there's no operating system on the external drive, but it's a nice idea in theory anyway!

Well, It has some copyright questions. BUT! You can. I tried it. You only need a .txt file to have the serial with you. Serttings and serial is stored in the regitry, but it can run from the external drive, as the software loads complitely into the computer memory.
