I wouldn't buy this laptop because the video card is on board so the ram of vga will be shared from the system memory and this might 'cause some troubles.

Sfronti is right, but If you put 8GB in it I dont think it´ll matter really.
(Unless you hop on Vfx someday ;) )

Funnily I would take this one http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilio ... g~11884802

I´m completely done with Intel and all AMD now ;)

Haven't there been issues with AMD CPUs? Can't remember exactly when and where I have read it, but there is something in the back of my brain calling.

I know, but Fabrice assured me that he sees no reason why it shouldnt run like an intel :!: So I just went for it.

So far no problems, a bit slower on analysis, but everything else is running even smoother.
Plus 2 GPUs rock for video-mixing!

Offtopic.HorsSujet!
Also overclocking is no problem (+50% cpu-speed!) and way less heat when stressing the cpu (55°C on the A6-3400M vs. >80°C on the i3, but for this I partially blame Sony´s f****d up fan-System)

Depending on your budget + computing needs, I'd go with an i5/i7 (or similar AMD if price is an issue), with at least 4GB of 1333 RAM. Graphics card is a plus, just don't get integrated graphics like my old one (64MB of Video RAM, good luck using the HDMI port on the side at a decent resolution ). HD/SSD really doesn't matter since you can just buy one that's the right size for the job.

I'm a fan of www.newegg.com, and I highly recommend it. Not sure if they ship to the UK, but if anything it'll make for a great e-catalogue of what's on the market.

Thank you everyone for all the great advice - it is much appreciated! :D

Integrated graphics are not a problem for me - I'm never going to play games on the laptop, nor get into video editing/mixing. I just want lots of ram, lots of hd space, and a fairly fast processor (i5 or i7).

I do love AMD processors, but for compatibility I think an Intel one would be better.

My current laptop is only an Intel Dual Core (1.46Ghz x2) with only 2Gb ram, but it runs both Cross DJ, and (dare I say it?) Virtual DJ just fine. (Before you all tell me off about the VDJ thing, it's because I use it for karaoke events, and I have to say it's very good for that!)

What would be great, and it's what I intend to do, is have my old laptop running the karaoke, and my new one running just Cross DJ. I can't run both programs together on the old system because of it's limitations, so at karaoke events I'm forced to abandon my favourite Cross DJ and use the 'other' program.

Buying new equipment is so exciting!
