The first thing all Traktor Scratch users say: "Wow, why is your timecode that loud? Mine is more silently". For club use this does not matter, but for using it at home, if you are living together with other people, i.e. your parents or girlfriend, it can become hard.
How about a deeper groove but no louder timecode? I mean is it possible to cut the timecode deeper without making it louder?

Hi all,
I didn't read the whole thread  , but maybe I could help with some real-life-experience:

The MV Timecode is very strong (and it's loud) compared to others. The only competitor - to my experience (!) - is Serato.

Even with the "worst" subwoofer installation (which is located in a fine Funk-club ;) ), I have a clean, skipfree signal...and the vinyls are in heavy use since November! I admitt that I have to put about 6 grams of needle pressure - but none of the other DVSystems can help out. Especially when it comes to Absolute mode.

Traktor is not usable in this club, not even the 45rpm side. Even if the signal is at least good for Relative mode, it's not hassle free - no option to me.

If you wanna hear and feel a really weak signal try Torq (MsPinky and derivates). I can't get this DVS runnin' in no club without drops and skipping. BTW: If someone can manage to work with Pinky in a real club (not a smooth elevator-music-chill-sleep-club) in Absolute mode without skipping - Respect!!

To me there is a clear order:
1. MV / SPIN timecode vinyl, Serato timecode vinyl
3. Traktor timecode vinyl
4. Torq timecode vinyl, Virtual Vinyl timecode vinyl
Since I have every color / flavor (except Serato ;) ) of every timecode vinyl this "field-test" is not influenced by a "good" or "bad" pair of vinyls

Please keep in mind that this is my very personell opinion and experience, that I own and use all these systems and have NO preference by endorsing or sponsoring or other things!

Right now the NI MK2 Timecode is the one least skippy. period.
MV & Serato Vinyl share the 2nd place. (both need about a 3/4 gram more than the NI Timmecode to be as skip-proof.

Hi j-kut,
I'm happy to see that there are other equip-junkies, that are able to compare - and do! (I'm always pissed of when reading hyms of users glorifying their own system, but never used another one)

You're right NI is good regarding skipping, but - as sad before - I experienced signal quality very sensible (call it "Loudness" of Timecode), so that I'm bound to Rel mode. I'm not a scratcher, therefore I do not "force" skipping - but I use track selection and position (the aim is not to touch the computer ...I'm old ;) )
With MK2 I have no experience, maybe I should try.

BTW: It's also possible that different behaviour regarding noise and rumble is caused by the base-freq of timecode. Maybe the 2kHz code of NI and 1kHz of Pinky - in my working environment - is more sensible than the 1,3 kHz of MV. Who knows...

So don't feel offended, just thought some personell additional experience could help. Since I don't know you (and therefore have no intentions) and it doesn't help nobody to discuss different experiences; be happy that there are more people publishing "field-experience". I wish that a few more fellows would share their experience to give a picture. Everyone can develop an own opinion then.
Nevertheless it seems that our Timecode-order only really differs in NI, which could mean that we start a kind of "statistics" ;)

At least pardon me for the little joke closing with
Word. period.
(I do not really understand these yo-bros-gangster-orwhatever phrases, but I want to be friendly and will share it ...maybe it's necessary to give more authenticity to a statement)

No worries, I just tend to use some hiphop-lingo after a couple beers...especially when trying to defend my opinion  but I dont talk like this all the time ;)

regarding, what you experience as bad tracking, there are so many factors:

- heavy bass -> vibrations of course

-almost as important: slipmats (you wouldnt believe how much a difference they make)

-how does the software handle rumble

-is the vinyl plain

-how´s the center-hole

-and of course needles

Personally I have had "problems" with any Timecode in a Club.
Not really show-stopping, just moving waveforms on the not playing deck.

(Well, except one time some party-douche thought a beer-shower was fun, 100 points, right into the booth  )
