I've been reading about that. It's a pity that they didn't give much warning to the people who were using the site legally.
Strange? Maybe not, that it happened after many sites shut down due to the SOPA and PIPA protest day...
An act of desperation I'm guessing, after the massive support for the protest - typical of these big organisations.
Scenario: 'Oh dear, some essential and important sites closed down... what can we do? I know, let's flex our muscles, show our power and kill something - pick a website guys, we'll take it down'
The only people who will benefit from this are the lawyers. They can close all the sites they like, and I'm betting that the people that they represent won't see any profit from it at all. However, the legal cases will still go on, and the law firms will still be making millions...

Well to be honest I have only seen Megaupload in connection to illegal downloads. Search the internet for "Track xy free download" and you will receive pages which include links to megaupload or rapidshare. A good friend of mine also mentioned that his webhoster is hosting "illegal stuff (=audio, video, software)". Closing Megaupload is just a a finger in the dike!
I agree, most of the stuff I've seen is illegal, but there were many legal users too.
I wouldn't be surprised if Rapidshare is the next to close.

Yes! I always wonder why these obviously illegal file hosters are online that long time. I mean the cops (or who is responsible for this) must be blind, it is everywhere. Even pages where you can get the links to all the stuff ... online since ages. And you do't have to be a genius to get access!
I was a legal user... They were making huge profit... Freedom of the internet isn't for tomorrow. Is freedom the right of some manipulated groups to decide the end of copyright? Is it freedom to decide in place of authors and editors? How many mv users use illegal copies? What about google who agregate mv and crack blogs before launching a search? Don't you think it's up to an editor to decide how to distribute copies of their work? Megaupload doesn't answer to our requests but rapidshare did close on our demands illegal links...
Mixvibes of course didn't call the FBI which isn't by it's culture on the freedom side everyday.
Big Brother is watching you.
The price of a software is high because of this mud. License holders pay the losses as in a supermarket every one knows there are 3% of steal, a 3% margin included in all retails prices. In software 3% steal would be a dream. All business corrupted by these bad boys attitude aren't huge monopolistic companies. I shut up now as some anonymous want more than all and I don't want to see our forum destroyed because they decide tomorrow we are ennemies. Where is the democracy when an elit group decide for us? Where is this so call freedom? Vive* Mixvibes! Vive* our licensed users!
for the most part every one has agreed to a set of rules for conduct on the fourm,,understand the need to support the company by trying to curb the use of illeagel software and downloads paying the cost to keep thing progessing i agree with the principals of freedom of choice, also the responsibilities of ones choices i think there are two factions out there that the mentality is wrong, the first is if they cant profit from something then it needs to be shut down till they figure out how to profit from it, the second is the mentality to have control of your choices because they deem the morality of the choices avaible, ie smoking in public places, the first puts taxes on it to their profit, the other try to control you and your freedoms i am not buying in to either mentality trying to keep me and mine safe and prospering and enjoy life without to many regerts,
