Hannes, we're just trying to get what you (Stealthii first, then you) are talking about....

Because, basically if a driver requests 24-bits full range audio data, we give it 24-bits full range audio data. Afterwards, if its output is +10dB, that's no software issue.
So finally, we're trying to know if there can be some audio data format we ain't handling correctly...

We'll be back very soon after having tested a sound device that can handle both 16 and 24 bits.

Concerning the master level knob, that's a completely different story and I'm sure it's a good idea to mix it up with the 24-bits questions...

Keep in touch,
SylMV

Sylvain Rousselle!

AAHHH! ;)

Before i mix up output/potential dynamic range/bit resolution etc.
I´m just gonna say it´s too loud and does´t sound good anymore.

To me it´s like the output coming from the AI isn´t clean anymore (especially in the highend) when it is in software which has a master output.

Edit: If I set other software to reach the same level as Cross does,
it´s clipping as hell...

All this is really strange...
Basically, in the digital world, the "loudness" of the sound is only controlled by the device itself, when it comes back to analog... As said before, the device requests some audio data thru its driver using standard formats. If it sounds louder, it means either it adds gain, or it doesn't uses audio data as expected...

Moreover Cross output is 0dB, and there's strictly no advantage of lowering the output of a piece of audio software, because (if drivers and devices behaves as they say to...) it would mean not using the full dynamic range...

Sorry guys, I really don't get what the problem can be...
(16bits vs 24bits tests not done yet, it might help understanding ;))

I'll tell you what is actually ridiculous :
- users complaining of having both decks routed to the same channel of their mixer because they're actually set into dual stereo mode.

And adding a master knob in external mode will increase issue and support like : no sound coming from the application, or sound is saturated on the outputs and so on.

So yes, from your pov it is very simple...

no offense when i said it´s ridicoulus,

but to me feels like we´re discussing wether i´m having a problem with the output or not...makes me feel like I´m being treated like an ass/idiot though i´m trying just to help make Cross better than it already is.

And yes, from my pov it´s easy. ;)

@Sylvain: i get what you´re saying and with my limited knowledge I can see that there can be problems.

24 bit: theoretical 144db S/N Dynamic Range
Source: 16 bit
AI: actually just 103db DAC Range
Cross Output: 0db -> AI Output 0db = +3Vrms (?)
AI: 48/96Khz
Source 44.1Khz

i mean, there´s to be something going wrong somewhere

Hi guys,

we've tested Cross in ASIO with the soundcard of a CDJ-2000 that can be used in either 16 or 24 bits.
=> Strictly no difference on the output level!

Your devices' driver might have some strange behavior, maybe not giving the host the correct sample format...

We don't have any of the Ecler or the SL2 to check this...

By the way, I can't see any potential issue in what you posted Hannes... !

A nice week end to all of you ;)

afaik thats only the codec from the digital out, the rca-out and the actual interface in the cdj2000 is usb1.1 and 16bit.

Just to throw a hopefully useful question in:

Could it be that it is a problem of not working with the same standard?

I mean for example the mixvibes team is woking and programming using the standard but for example Pioneer or Ecler don't and programm their own "standard"?! Programmers in general, the bad guys like me, don't always follow guidelines and standards. Working for a big company does not mean that you strictly follow the guideline from the ISO or someone else.

Just my thoights aout that :)

Cheers,

Steve
