I've got myself into trouble with that 20 minute stat!
It's more accurate to say that once the OS boots up applications seem to take ages to open - lots of hard drive accessing. During this time applications already open will not always respond. I cannot fit anymore RAM in my system-all slots are full.
As for Cross at low latency settings...music plays choppy and a soon as I touch my timecode vinyl Cross can hang. Just clicking on the FX button even with none applied causes sound to stutter and usually adding the next song to cue will halt the system.
I know all of those apps and used to be on top of regular maintenance. I'll admit I've let that slip a little. I just assumed that old hard-drive, old processor, old RAM was holding me up. I reckon I got this desktop PC in 2003.
Let me give it another go and I'll see how I get on.

Yeah that could be it, and then be sure to check running processes as well, as they can make a decent system slow down. To disable unnecessary start up processes and potentially really speed up your machine and/or optimize it for audio tasks is go to -
Start -> Run -> MsConfig -> Startup Items: Disable any unnecessary items.
In MsConfig check out Processes too and disabling some of those that you can verify not to be necessary could potentially really improve performance, as well.
Like I said, a dual core AMD 3800 machine w/ even just 1 GB of memory I'd imagine should have absolutely no problem running Cross.
"Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do" - not sure who.
Yep,I've checked that. I'm also running Gamebooster to shutdown all unnecessary processes when Cross runs. Still the same- I have to set high latency settings otherwise Cross is unresponsive and gives out choppy sound.
As I say, let me have another run of maintenance and see if things are any better.

No malware/spyware/viruses have been found here. A lot of registry entries removed, a lot of "optimisation" settings changes.
Result? Cross crashes immediately on startup. No useful information in the Event Log. Currently re-installing Cross and U46 drivers. UPDATE: This has not worked.
Not happy. Other than wiping my PC and starting all over again, I'm not sure what to do here.

Back on the topic of laptop advice, every users needs are different. I am now sporting a used Lenovo ThinkPad X61, running OSX. Although this setup is not supported by Mixvibes, it's a fantastic combination of features, such as:
CoreAudio from OSX is superior to ASIO. Lightweight (3lbs), compact (12"), easy to cart around. Heavily durable (thinkpad technology - withstand drink spills, knocks, and a good battering) Good quality hardware (properly grounded using any charger, no hum, Texas Instruments firewire) Packs performance for DVS software (2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM)
This, plus a dock so I can bung it down in my studio, only cost me 320GBP. I had a MacBook Pro for ages, and although I had everything that was great about them, it was too big (15"), others were too bulky (13"), or perfect but downright expensive (any Macbook Air, which would be the only Mac considerations I would have for DJing, and are less powerful than the Thinkpad X61)
Lenovo do make great quality products, and if you were considering a Mac alternative, I would heartily recommend their IdeaPad range, both the U series (slimmer) and the Z series (more affordable).

The whole thing cost you £320 or just the dock? Looking this up quickly I'm seeing prices around 1k!

It's not the tablet model, although that would be another awesome step up (swivel screen to aim it better). Whole thing including dock, that's the beauty of used equipment. It's in great nick too. All of my setup is bought in this fashion (400 quid for two 1210mk5s, 250 for FA-101 interface, 600 quid for Ecler Evo 5 mixer, 300 quid for two cortex hdtt-5000s).
Of course, Mixvibes is the only new product in my setup
