Mike and djsamrties

This whole time I have been looking to the FX-Assign unit from the perspective or which channel is the inout to FX1 or FX2.

New perspective may give way to a viable solution.

1st some background info.
channel 1 is selected for FX1
channel 2 is selected for FX2
channel 3 is not selected for FX at all
channel 4 is not selected for FX at all

It goes like this

Channel 1 Audio to--> Channel Fader 1to --> FX1 to -->Crossfader to --> Output

Channel 3 Audio to--> Channel Fader 3 to --> Crossfader to --> Output

Channel 2 Audio to--> Channel Fader 2 to --> FX2 to -->Crossfader to --> Output

Channel 4 Audio to--> Channel Fader 4 to --> Crossfader to --> Output

If FX1 and FX 2 are set to master then

Channel 1 Audio to--> Channel Fader 1to --> Crossfader to --> FX1 to -->Output

Channel 3 Audio to--> Channel Fader 3 to --> Crossfader to --> FX1 to -->Output

Channel 2 Audio to--> Channel Fader 2 to -->Crossfader to --> FX2 to -->Output

Channel 4 Audio to--> Channel Fader 4 to -->Crossfader to --> FX2 to -->Output

When the FX unit is set to master the FX unit changes position from prefader to post fader.

This gives way to the correct way of looking at the FX Assign using the DDJ-SR

The FX Assign represents to which FX unit the deck is fed to. It could be 1, 2 or both.

The master indication just indicates if your effects unit is working pre-fader or post-fader.

base on what I just explained

The difference between the DDJ-SX and the DDJ-SR is that in the DDJ-SX you can glance at all 4 channel to know the state
while with the DDJ-SR you must switch to that deck to know its state.

This is the way, and it opens the door to a whole set of other functions.

Selection= FX1=MASTER, FX2=C
FX1 Section Second LED from left= 1
FX2 Section Second LED from left= 0

Deck 1 Deck2
LED1 LED2 LED1 LED2

Hi FigDJ

What you explain sounds sensible to me. Not sure though what you mean exactly by saying "it opens the door to a whole set of other functions", and does it help you with the mapping?

I will include a text file with the next version that will explain every function in detail.

I think djsamrties does but,Do you have software capable of opening Xcel spreadsheet? I am thinking that I can put toguether a nicer document that just a text file.

Yes, I can open Microsoft Excel files if that is what you mean.

Hello FIgDJ and MIKE
hope that you had a nice weekend ;)
this is my last return for our project.

FigDJ wrote:The instructions to reset your controller are in the user manual for the DDJ-SR.

Im so sorry but i dont find it on the manual of ddj sr

FigDJ wrote:The updated firmware can be found

Make sure you have the latest one installed.

I have just done it.

Then i re try to command Sampler C when i am on player B or D but it doesnt work anymore.

FigDJ wrote:Can you explain where you would select deck 2 or 4? I have no problems using the sampler if I have tracks in decks 1, 3 and 4 and either of them is selected to use transport controls or the mixer controls.

For example, i select "quad deck mode" and "3 players + 1 sampler (C)"
So, i have a track in player A, B and D. And i have a sample bank in player C like this :

Capture d’écran 2014-05-26 à 10.53.45.png

Now, if i select DECK 1 or 3 (buttons 1.6 or 1.8) on the DDJ SR, and i choose SAMPLER (button 6.12 on the left of DDJ SR) then i can use the sampler bank in player C by using the 8 pads (buttons 6.1 to 6.8 on the left of DDJ SR)

But, if if i select DECK 2 or 4 (buttons 1.7 or 1.9) on the DDJ SR, and i choose SAMPLER (button 6.12 on the right of DDJ SR) then i CANT use the sampler bank in player C by using the 8 pads (buttons 6.1 to 6.8 on the right of DDJ SR)

If you can do this, it probably means that i have a mistake somewhere but i dont know where.
And if finaly, you can not do that to, i asking if its possible to setup this ?
And if not, this is not the more important thing.
We dont have to spend to much time on this ;)

FigDJ wrote:I found the command for changing the number of deck in use. Now I have to figure out where to put it.

Very fine :)

FigDJ wrote:Please examine your options and let me now, I will map one or the but not all 3. recommend option 3 if the master can be made to blink.

Option 3 is fine for me to if that can be made work.

And finaly, im sorry FigDJ, but your last message was to hard to understand for me.
I continue to trust in you, especially because im not a professional..
So i will test your next version with pleasure and serious,
but im sorry to say that i dont understand your new perspective :p

The manual is in the Pioneer support page for the DDJ-SR or you can find a link on a previous post by me on this same thread.

What you just described is the normal behavior and can't be changed. Think of it like this:
On the left you are controlling Player 1 or Player 3, when you switch to sampler you replaced Player 3 with Sampler 1.
On the right you are controlling Player 2 or Player 4, when you switch to sampler you replaced Player 4 with Sampler 2.

Controls on the left only control player or sampler on the left, control on the right only control player or sampler on the right. They can't be switch from side to side.

In the case that you described you are trying to use pads on the right to control a sampler on the left and it is not working. That is the correct behavior.

Don't worry, we both come from different background and have different native languages, so we are naturally going to have some communication barriers. I am planning to release a nice spreadsheet with the next version that will have detailed explanations of each and every command for the buttons.

djsamarties, you are right this does not work. Never tested this before as I found it logical to use the 8 pads on the left from decks 1+3.

I believe this is because Cross DJ follows a different concept than Serato DJ.

In Serato the Sampler (single one) is not tied to a specific channel or side of controller. Its output is always after the crossfader.
You can make the Sampler 1 and Sampler 2 be output after the crossfader just like Serato by turning off the crossfade assign buttons for C and D. However, the controls is still tied to a side because it is not a single sampler unit it is two separates ones.

My guess is that the way it was done in Cross was to allow to use effect on samples independently.
