MAPPING FOR DDJ SR

Postby djsamrties on 29 Apr 2014, 20:13

Hello everybody !
i post here because i dont find any answer on the french forum.
I hope find more tips here and i'm sorry for my sad english...
I have the PIONNER DDJ SR since few weeks and i want to use Cross DJ because serato is really poor...

so my first question is : somebody know if the developpers of Cross DJ will soon setup the mapping of the DDJ SR ?

If the answer is no, i continue to configure it myself and so i have lot of others questions...

1 - i have notice that some buttons are not reconnized by Cross DJ (master level, headphone mix, headphone level for example) What can i do for that ?

2 - For the moment, i only can use the 8 pads to put hot cue because when i push on the "roll" button (whish normally change the fonctions of the 8 pads), or slicer, or sampler, it doesnt change anything. What can i do for that ?

3 - there is another similar question about that. With DDJ SR, you can switch between player 1 and 3 when you push on the "1" button or "3" button. When you do that, all the commands in the player command are for the 1 or the 3 player. With the same idea, when you push on the "pad plus" button, the button of "hot cue" become "hot cue roll", the button of "roll" become "trans" etc.. Is it possible to setup that ?

4 - In serato, when you push on "shift" and turn the jog, you can rewind or forward along the track very easily. How can i do that ?

This is the principals questions that stay without answers...
And i suppose that i continue to find another mystery while trying to map DDJ SR so please help me !
Serato is too sad, Cross DJ is awesome,
but without a correct mapping, my DDJ SR is of no use !!!

Thanks for your help,
and sorry again for my terrible english !

Hi, Welcome to MixVibes. If this is your worst English you don't have to worry. With users from all over the world it is not uncommon to have to go back and forth every now and then to make sure the right problem being solved.
One of the moderators is US based and does some magic stuff with MIDI. Good thing is that he writes French MIDI as well (fortunately in French MIDI the code is not reversed  (or was it the English words being reversed)

It might be that the devteam needs a little more time to address the new possibilities of the great new device.

There is one good advantage of getting into MIDI mapping, which is that you will quickly learn all the options in Cross.

Likely FigID will drop by soon as he always seem to be triggered by the visuals of the word 'mapping'...

All right !
Thanks for your help Rojec,
i hope that the international people of mixvibes will be faster to answer than the franch ;)
As you say, i learn a lot of things when i try to map for ddj sr but i confess that i prefer to know that they will be soon a official mapping ;)
Do you know if there is a place where we can find a complet tutorial for mapping ? not only the essential things ?
thanks a lot

You'd better wait for someone with knowledge of the current MIDI things.
The French forum usually is fast. Think it was a vacation period. English forum has more visitors around the clock.
But most important is that some questions can only be answered by the. Mixvibes team and they may need to do some research sometimes.

Hi djsamrties

I can take you into this journey as the DDJ-SR is very similar to the DDJ-SX.

The 1st step into this is to use the Cross mapping utility to map basic function for players 1and 2.
2. Download the MIDI map table from the Pioneer site. (It is located in the support page for the controller).
3. Post here or send me the basic map file that you created.
Then the fun starts. I will map functions and tell you what is expected with each controller movement. You will test it and tell me the results so I can fix the bugs and continue mapping the more complex functions. I can only write the code but can't test it as do not own the controller. I will explain things along the way and I can gain more experience and help a fellow DJ while you and anyone else interested can watch and learn a few things about MIDI mapping.
Or you may want to wait until it is released, up to you.

We don't have time to work on an official mapping. Figdj it's a good proposal to learn MIDI throught your post.

Hi FigDJ !
you are so welcome !
i dont want to wait the official mapping because thez say that they cant say when it will come !
So im very interesting by your proposition :)

so after see your step, i have some questions :

1- I dont know the Cross mapping utility. Is it just the pannel MIDI in settings or is it an other soft ?

2- i try to find the MIDI map of ddj sr but i'm affraid that it doesnt exist. If you look at the page of "DDJ-WEGO" model you can find :
http://www.Pioneer.eu/fr/support/softwa ... /page.html
but at "the DDJ SR" model page, there is no MIDI map :
http://www.Pioneer.eu/fr/support/softwa ... /page.html

I search on the internet but i dont find this MIDI map..
Could you find the ddj SR MIDI map or help me without it ?
:s

3- for the moment, i use the DDJ SX map of Cross DJ and i just make some test and little changement but you can begin with DDJ SX map, it would be more easy.

thanks a lot for your attention and your help FigDJ :))

We/you should start by mapping the basic functions, no LED response just the functions. For this, you use the MIDI mapping section of Cross. By doing this Cross will create a specific files that IDs your controller which is what I need since I don't have the controller and it is not yet supported.

The MIDI map table for the DDJ-SR can be found here

http://pioneerdj.com/support/product.php?c=3209&lang=en&p=DDJ-SR&t=273

Also in that page make sure that you follow the link to set up your controller to work with other than Serato software.

We can get this map done but I also wanted you get the table because after it is done you should be able to make custom changes by following the table.

If it work with some but not all commands using DDJ-SX. Then we need 2 list
1 list for what it is working and 1 list for what it is not working. You would have to do that. After the list is done then I can tackle modifying the DDJ-SX map to accommodate the DDJ-SR.
