Postby djsamrties on 12 May 2014, 20:27

hello every body,
i'm back and i have setup the ddjsr as you say to me.
Just one thing that i dont understand in the manual of miwvibes for ddjsx.
can you explain to me what they want to say with :

BUTTON HOTCUE
ON --> CHOICE THE LED OF JOGWHEEL = PAD 1 TO 5
PAD 2 IS OUR CHOICE

for the 4 decks switch it works now.
But in serato, we can play 4 decks and use samplers in the same time.
Do you know if it is possible with Cross DJ ?

i will try your latest map as soon as possible and try to give the most complet answer.

Thanks again and again for all your wordk FIGDJ :)))

The DDJ family of controllers have options to display the platter LED's in different paterns as the track is moving along. You are free to use a different patern. It just means that the patern of choice by Mixvibes the the #2.

I am glad it is working, as I was wrecking my brain as to why it wouldn't work for you and then i remember.

I don't think is possible, perhaps someone will correct me.

In Serato each one of the deck goes to its own channel. Deck 123 and 4 are set to channels 1,2,3 and respectively.
The sampler is send to the output (post-fader) and comes out in the master regardless of the position of the fader.
To cue for the sampler is always in the channel that is in cue (not on air)

In Cross each one of the deck goes to its own channel. Deck 123 and 4 are set to channels 1,2,3 and respectively. However, there are 2 samplers that when activated are mixed set for channels 3 and 4 replacing the player decks. So they are sourced pre-fader and are only present on the out depending on the position of the fader.

Hope that helps.

I already noticed that i forgot to map the LED for reverse crossfader but will wait for some additional feedback to go back and fix that.

Thanks a lot for the updated mapping. The beat leds for auto loop work.

Unfortunately still no lock with pitch bend when touching the top of the jog wheel, also still no luck with smartseek for me (no hardware know on the DDJ-SR, maybe I need to configure something in mode setup).

I'm wondering if you changed something on the effects (FX) mapping? Works now different than the DDJ-SX mapping - for example the "FX1 Assign" and "FX2 Assign" buttons no longer work for me.

OK guys I have seen your feedback and will work 1st on the FX sections.

For djsamrties some of the things you asked for are tipycal for the way Serato works and they are just not that way in Cross.

For Mike Fossati the DDJ-SR is meant to work different but I am sure I screwed up something (LOL) I will take a look and get back with a new version hopefully before Friday.

djsamrties

I have addressed all the concerns listed on the table. They are included below and in a text file attachement.

Mike Fossati- I made some changes in the jog wheel/platter map, please test for pitchbend when vinyl off. I hope it works.

Also corrected the FX assign section it is all explained below and in the included text file.
3 files
1. Version 5A - manual In and out loop
2. Version 5B - increase or decrease auto loop size. no manual in or out loop.
3. text file with explanations.

djsamrties Related to items on the table

1-1 SHIFT PLAY/PAUSE
This item was not even mapped before. It is now so please test it.

1-2 Shift+CUE
Only goes back to the begining of a track. Going back to the previous track is a Serato function that is not present in Cross.

1-3 PITCH BEND with platter (Vinyl off)
Made some changes. Hopefully it works. please test.

1-10 SHIFT+SYNC
Right now sync is set up to turn on/off just by pressing sync.
The shift + sync sets the deck as master. This is the recomended Cross mapping for this function on the DDJ controller family.
I could map the set master function normally but you will loose the function from 1-1.

1-11 SHIFT+AUTO LOOP
The AUTOLOOP function is mapped to trigger a new loop according to the size specified in the auto loop section.
Shift + AUTOLOOP now turns on/off a loop if it is active or does a RELOOP which is activates a previously set loop not necesarily to the setting in the auto loop section because the size of a previously set loop can be different to the current selection in the auto loop section.

1-12 and 1-13
Current
1/2 = Halves an active loop
SHIFT+ 1/2 = Sets the in point for a manual loop

2x Doubles an active loop
Shift+ 2x = Sets the out point for a manual loop

This configuration is what the labels on the DDJ-SR calls for. This is the map on version 5A.However, I created version 5B which is mapped as follows.

1/2 = Halves an active loop
SHIFT+ 1/2 = Autoloop select decrement

2x Doubles an active loop
Shift+ 2x = Autoloop select increment

This version allows you to increase or decrease the size of the autoloop before or after is activated but you loose the manual loop in and out.
Your choice, hardware limitations allows for one or the other not both.

On the FX Assign section
The commands were solid and as they should be. However I made some mistakes in the way the LEDs respond.
I made changes to rectify those errors and made other changes.

The FX assign sections are independent of the player or channel and certainly independent of the side of the controller in which they are located.

The expected results with the new code are listed below , please test them and let meknow.

FX1 Unit assign (Left side)

Button1 = FX1 assigned source channel 1, LED 1 on, LED 2 off
S+ Button 1 = FX1 assigned source channel 3, LED 1 blinks, LED 2 off

Button 2 = FX1 assigned source channel 2, LED 2 on, LED 1 off
S+ Button 1 = FX1 assigned source channel 4, LED 2 blinks, LED 1 off

In the FX1 section Left side FX Select button #2 (designated 2-6)
FX1 is assigned source MASTER, LED for that button blinks,
LED 1 and 2 in assign section off

FX2 Unit assign (Right side)

Button 1 = FX2 assigned source channel 1, LED 1 on, LED 2 off
S+ Button 1 = FX2 assigned source channel 3, LED 1 blinks, LED 2 off

Button 2 = FX2 assigned source channel 2, LED 2 on, LED 1 off
S+ Button 1 = FX2 assigned source channel 4, LED 2 blinks, LED 1 off

In the FX2 section Right side FX Select button #2 (designated 2-6)
FX2 is assigned source MASTER, LED for that button blinks,
LED 1 and 2 in assign section off

Example
To select FX1 and FX2 be assigned to channel 1,
press button 1 on left and right sides.

To select FX1 and FX2 be assigned to channel 2,
press button 2 on left and right sides.

To select FX1 and FX2 be assigned to channel 3,
press S+button 1 on left and right sides.

To select FX1 and FX2 be assigned to channel 4,
press S+ button 2 on left and right sides.

To select FX1 and FX2 be assigned to channel MASTER, press FX SELCT button #2 on left and right sides.

Please remember that we are taking a controller that natively works in Serato and making it work with Cross. Not making Cross behave like Serato with this controller. Some fuctions are commom but other specially the FX section are very different. So I have mapped the FX sections to include several video titler options.

The FX Sections

Some nomenclature 1st
These are the 4 knobs and buttons located on the top to by the right of the FX assign.
They are designated in Pioneer documents as 2-1 to 2-8
and labeled as follows

1 2 3 BEATS
FX ON FX ON FX ON TAP

FX1 Section

FX1 KNOB(1) =Fx1 Amount
FX1 S+KNOB(1) =Titler Text X Speed

FX1 KNOB(2) =Fx1 Depth
FX1 S+KNOB(2) =Titler Image Transparency

FX1 KNOB(3) =Titler Image Size
FX1 S+KNOB(3) =Titler Image Placement Index

FX1 BEATS =Titler Image Preset Index

FX1 ON 1 =Fx1 On/Off
FX1 S+FX ON 1 =Fx1 Select

FX1 FX ON 2 =FX1 Input Channel = MASTER
FX1 S+FX ON 2 =Enable Titler Image

FX1 FX ON 3 =Load Audio In Player A
FX1 S+FX ON 3 =Load Video In Player A

FX1 TAP =Audio Video Fx1 Switch
FX1 S+TAP =Bidimensionnal Fx On/Off

FX2 Section

FX2 KNOB(1) =Fx2 Amount
FX2 S+KNOB(1) =Titler Text Y Speed

FX2 KNOB(2) =Fx2 Depth
FX2 S+KNOB(2) =Titler Text Transparency

FX2 KNOB(3) =Titler Text Size
FX2 S+KNOB(3) =Titler Text Placement Index

FX2 BEATS =Titler Text Preset Index

FX2 ON 1 =Fx2 On/Off
FX2 S+FX ON 1 =Fx2 Select

FX2 ON 2 =Fx2 Input Channel = MASTER
FX2 S+FX ON 2 =Enable Titler Tex

FX2 ON 3 =Load Audio In Player B
FX2 S+FX ON 3 =Load Video In Player B

FX2 TAP =Audio Video Fx2 Switch
FX2 S+TAP =Bidimensionnal Fx On/Off

other Items

3-8 MASTER Volume
In the DDJ controllers this is a hardware button. Your GUI should always be set to max and the actual control resides on the controller
itself as specified in the pdf file page 1 for set up of the DDJ -SX provided by Mixvibes.

3-9 HEADPHONE MIX
Same as 3-8

3-10 SAMPLER VOLUME
Not a fuction of Cross, Currently mapped to

SAMPLER VOLUME = Video Only Cross Fade
S+ SAMPLER VOLUME = Video Master Volume

5-4 and 5-5 S+ LOAD1 and SHIFT LOAD2
Mapped to empty the Player.
The "classify the track with BPM" is a Serato function not present in Cross.

6-11 SLICER
Normal operation for Cross. When pressed, tap a performance pad and Cross uses the sampler to create the slicer effect.

6-12 PAD PLUS ON
Not mapped. Not a function of Cross. Could be used for other functions.

Thanks again for all your hard work FigDJ. I've done some tests, things are working great so far. Here is some specific feedback:

Pitch bend with Vinyl off works like a charm :) The way that you mapped Sync is perfect for me.

FX Assign works but only when deck 1 or deck 2 are selected, also when deck 3 or deck 4 are selected the LEDs for FX Assign are off. (maybe this is how it is supposed to work, not sure ). FX2 Assign to master does not work for me (FX1 Assign to master works well).

Will do some more tests tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Mike

thanks for the feedback. We are getting closer and closer. i will take a look at those sections and see what is going on.

Question
When you say "works only when deck 1 and 2 are selected" do you mean selected in the FX section or selected as the controlled deck?
