Integration of online storage possible? WebDAV?

Postby mamue on 28 Sep 2015, 12:40

Hi,
i use Cross DJ on two devices, smartphone and tablet. It becomes more and more time consuming to synchronize the music between windows and the android devices. Plus the full archive does not fit on the sd-card. A connection to any online storage like ownCloud would be great.
If Android was more like a unix i could simply mount the storage and Cross DJ wouldn't have to take care but alas that doesn't work. So, a "bugfix" to Android would be great! ;)

Maybe you should investigate some time in setting up syncing your devices via Windows.

DJing via online storage isn't to reliable. You easily run into technical issues like connectivity. The Cross DJ app isn't for streaming so tracks have to be fully loaded first.
It isn't just accidental that at this moment only SoundCloud is supported.

I would guess having access to a OTG external storage is more likely to occur first... If Android is going to support this better for parallel processing.

In all there is a little more to it than just adding the interface. And let's not forget legal issues that may deriviate from this. The entertainment industry pushed pretty hard on SoundCloud to make it remove many tracks which didn't have the proper rights..

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

You are certainly right, it's just that i have a view from a different angle at it.
The files on my ownCloud or other webDav storage are owned by me and not shared. That should be garantued by the credentials needed to access them. I can not see any special legal issues here besides the general problem of multiple copies.
The technical availability definetely is a problem. But not for me. I use Cross DJ as a replacement for winamp+pacemaker. Instead of carrying a laptop arround i have it handy ;-) I very rarely use the mixing abilities, sorry to say that
I use it merely for playing dance sport music (standard/latin) and love the timestretching for training reasons. When the network fails i still have enough fallback.
Anyway, i guess i'm one of the few who'ld benefit from that.

You could just use the concerning cloud app for download and have Cross use that folder.
Will also help you to have a 'core Cross collection' and the occasional tracks seperated....

The rights issue isn't there to point at legal or illegal, the main issue is that the 'rights' companies have developed a habit to blame the suppliers. Just the cost of replying to a letter of their lawyers takes a couple of grant... and this is years before the trial is over...
