External Hard Drives

Postby hey dj on 12 Apr 2016, 23:16

Hi all, I have Cross DJ on my Android Tablet. My tablet external SD slot is expandable up to 128GB Sd Card but I have over 250GB of music. I DJ a lot of weddings and I need to have all my music with me. I have connected an external hd to my tablet via OTG cable. When I unplug my external Hd from my tablet, then later plug it back in, Cross DJ doesn't recognize all the songs that are on my HD and I have to rescan all the files which can take hours. Is there something I'm missing? Or a fix for this? I would love to scan the files, and plug and go when necessary.

Thanks in advance!

This is how it works. Cross uses the Android mediabase as source. If you add/remove tracks Android will update the mediabase. This includes tracks at any media that is added/removed.

Having a separate Cross database will be hard as this takes a lot of space.

Also be aware that playlists are maintained by the mediabase.

In this setup you best use a powered usb hub. Else your hdd will drain your battery and you'll have to disconnect to charge your tab. Also the tab needs a lot of power due to screen and cpu activity.

My personal thought is that you shouldn't try to get the same result from a tab as from a PC. I use a small set of tracks at my tab (3k) also at lower quality (256mp3 vs Flac).

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

This EXACTLY what I thought someone would say... Thank you for the insight. I don't believe the make and model of the tablet would make a difference but I am using a Samsung Galaxy View Tab with a portable HD so I get your point about the battery etc.. My PC software crashes too often (I use Native Instruments Traktor) but they seem to be falling backwards lately. Maybe I'll give MixVibes a shot on the PC.

Thanks again for the info guys, have a great day!
