Android Database problems

Postby BazzaMC on 01 Apr 2016, 12:42

HI. I have been using Cross DJ for almost a year with no issues. I've recently upgraded my tablet and installed Cross DJ - lots of problems! I've solved a few using the forum. My current problem is that every time I launch the app there are no songs in the database. Over the next hour or so the songs gradually end up in the database. I can then make playlists. If I close and open the app all the info is there. If I turn off the tablet and back on again, everything is gone. Sometimes the tracks are there but never any playlists. I've manually cleared the database and rescanned - no change. I've tried making playlists using Play music - same results. I've looked at the playmusic account. It is connected to my google account but I have not subscribed - I have all my DJ music and I don't need a subscription. My music is on a 64gb SD.
Any ideas? Thanks! Barry

The root of your problem isn't with Cross.

Cross uses the Mediabase of android. The mediabase has some trigger to update itself with the available media present at your device.

The simple explanation would be that you unmount your SD.

Android is pretty sensitive on the tracks. If you change a track file somehow via any external connection you run the risk of android considering it a new entry and the old track being gone..

Thanks for that. I've just tried creating a playlist from the internal SD and all was OK. The external SD is the problem. I've unmounted and remounted the card. Currently scanning. Fingers crossed......

I'm afraid you may have missed the point, given your unmounting action.

If you unmount you loose all your SD card entries in the mediabase.
When you (re)mount you get all back as new entries.

So all your playlist will have the removed tracks deleted, without any of the new entries. Even if to you it seems the same file.

As the android process for this starts some kind of 'random' you can be lucky once in a while.

Before spending to much effort on playlists you have to figure out why the mediabase gets empty. As long as you don't have this resolved your efforts will have to be repeated...

No good unfortunately! Same result. I turn the the tablet off and then on again and everything gone. Very frustrated at this point. I have 30gb internal in the tablet. Would be ok for backup but its not enough for what I need. I'll be back to virtual DJ and laptop this weekend.

If anyone can think of what this problem might be I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

Try google or the support forum for your device.

It like is a mediabase related issue or maybe the SD mounting is the issue.

OK I hadn't seen your post before I posted. What I did was unmount - remount - scan - create playlist from the entries - turn off - turn on - everything gone!

I understand that doing the same thing over and over will not yield different results. I thought perhaps the unmount remount action might lead to media base correctly cataloging the files. Understanding why media base is acting in this way is why I'm asking on the forum. I need Cross to read and remember my tracks and playlists from the SD card.

I've been googling the hell out of this and getting nowhere. I thought maybe someone here had come across this.

Thanks for your help!

I understand your needs, but Cross only adds to the mediabase info.

You really have to search in the mediabase area.

If I understand you right your mediabase is even empty for local media. If this isn't resolved it's no use to go any further.

To save time you may want to unmount the SD card until the local problem is solved (if your apps don't use the SD).

It's hard to help you in more detail as there are 100s of android versions in use. It would make sense if this is a known issue.

Also check if you don't have some app working with your mediabase.. can be streaming service, syncing service etc.

I'll see if I can find anything on a media base forum. There's no problems with the internal memory. The ext SD card is purely for DJ hits. Thanks

If all internal info in the media base is OK then it may be that the SD card is mounted on startup of your device after the mediabase update is triggered.
Or maybe some Anti Virus app slows down the release of the SD card for use by other apps, so the update process can
