Is this set-up works?

Hi All,

I would like to buy a U-Mix Control Pro 2 and would like to use it with a 10" Android tablet, but I would like to ask some questions before.

I guess I need to use a micro USB - USB cable to connect the tablet to the U-Mix. I would like to connect a stereo amplifier to the U-Mix (Output 1/2 or 3/4) with stereo speakers and a headphone to the front for cue. I would also like to connect a vinyl player to U-Mix (Input 1/2 or 3/4).

The way I would like to mix is turn the Mix knob of the Headphone to Cue and listen to Player 1 only in the Headphone by hitting the Source 1 button on the U-Mix. The Volume fader of Channel 1 is down and the Volume fader of Channel 2 is already up and the track on PLayer 2 is already played on the Output. Once I have done what I would like to do on PLayer 1 I hit Source 2 to be able to listen to Player 2 in the Headphone. Once I get the two tracks synced I would like to turn the Mix knob of the Headphone to Master. In this phase only the track on Player 2 can be heared. Now I push up the Channel 1 volume fader so track 1 will be hearable on Output as well. Mix the two tracks together by the Bas/Mid/Treble knobs and pull the Channel 2 volume fader down so now only Channel 1 can be heared on the output. In this way I do not even need to take off the headphone or if I do not connect anything to the Output of the U-Mix I can still have some fun (in silent).

1. Will I able to mix like this? If not what is the bottleneck in the proccess and why? (I had Pioneer stuff before and used to this kind of mixing and the avaiability to mix only in headphone).
2. Does the micro USB - USB cable included in the U-Mix package?
3. Will I have any advantage of using Android 5 rather than Android 4.4?
4. Do I need to buy an active USB hub as well or I will be able to power the U-Mix from the DC cable and use it with the tablet at the same time?

Sorry for the long letter and complicated questions :) Unfortunately I do not have a chance to try the U-Mix out before buying it so I need to order it online and I would like to make sure I will choose the correct device to my needs!

Thank you in advance!

Br,
Taki

Hi, welcome to MixVibes,

Output/headphone works like you write; also Cross fader can be used do mute a deck to Main out. Headphone is pre-fader with it's own volume knob.

Audio input is not possible with Android app (as far as I know).

You need an OTG cable to connect (not in package) via an USB (powered) hub.

The controller needs external power. If you use a powered hub you have the advantage of only 1 cable per device that you touch. This provides more freedom of positioning (usually). Be aware that your tablet works best and more than a few hours when also connected to power. As the OTG port is in use you need a powered hub....
You wouldn't be the first to arrive at a gig with a fully charged tablet that somehow appears to be empty on arrival...

Android 5 has official support for OTG connections; 4.x doesn't have this ("optional android feature").

Thank you RoJec for the good news! :)

So it seems I need to buy the following for a working set-up:
1. U-Mix controller (CrossDJ included)
2. Android 5 tablet
3. Powered USB hub
4. OTG Cable

Just one more question. The website says at U-Mix controller: "Full DJ software license" It means if I have an Android phone and Android tablet and a Windows laptop will I be able to use the software on all of them? (This would solve the audio input problem, when I would like to use vinyls as well I would use the Windows laptop)

Hi Taki,
1. just to be sure: you need U-Mix Control Pro 2 PRO (with soundcard build in)

3. Check that your hub delivers power for at least 2 ports; and if you plan to use an external hdd even more. (external hdd not supported on Android; might be in future). Best of course would be to have all powered.

U-Mix Control Pro comes with "Cross DJ" version for Windows/Mac. The Android app is different. "Full" in the line you refer to means that there are no limitations to this license (like free updates).
You can use vinyl as input. However if you plan to use timecode (DVS) you'll have to upgrade your license to "Cross" (and get yourself some tc vinyls).

Please let's know if you have anymore questions...
