Cross DJ Android USB OTG

Postby austenwood on 05 Jun 2014, 12:56

Is it possible to use an external storage device with Cross DJ for Android?

I have stickmount installed and USB drive connected to my Nexus5.
Cross DJ can see the USB drive, can access the folder I have music stored in and reports that the folder contains audio files.
The problem is that when I open the folder containing my music the app reports "No Files Found"

All files are visible & playable when accessed using ES File Explorer

Is this just a limitation of the app?

The developers might correct my answer for current situation.
But it used to be (and might still) that Cross uses the devices mediabase. If the files are not there, Cross cannot properly use it. This is/was to avoid multiple databases with track info on limited space...
This is where you could start (or wait a more knowledgable person to reply)

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

Hi,

Android does not support officially USB OTG.
They did make an official announce for Android 4.0 if I remember well, but it was such a mess (issue with USB Drive, manufacturers OS, etc...) that they reverted it.

However, you can open a USB Drive on Nexus 5. Using a file explorer is ok, but unfortunately, all tracks you have on this one will not be scanned and added to your media library. You can check: you won't be able to play them using google Play Music.

Why am I telling all of these things? Because Cross DJ for android heavily depends on this media library, to get useful information (such as Artist, album, etc..), and to link a track with our own information (Loops, hot cues, analysis). Therefore, if a track is not on the media library, we prevent them to be played within our app.

I know it's not a good solution; we are thinking about using a temporary identifier to keep information such as hot cues and analysis on tracks not scanned by Android.
But it will not be implemented for Cross DJ 1.4 as it will take time.

Cheers

Hello friends ,
Any update of the OTG connection in the new versions of the Cross DJ ?

I think it's gonna really upgrade the App...

Hello,
You are one of the numerous techno victims.

What you have to know and mixvibes should explain thid.
1) Android < lollipop 5.0 : no sound streaming via unless all the usb drivers provided by the application, moreover usb audio out cannot work at the same time than MIDI messages (used by the buttons and lights of the beatpad).
2) Android >= lollipop : usb audio streaming should work.
3) All versions of Android : your device must accept USB Host via a OTG cable (external devices like mouse, usb sticks, etc...).
It depends on the brand but also on the model of your device : Even some Samsung tablets or smartphone do not support this (S4 mini do not support USB OTG for instance). Archos always support USB host (The new lowcost tablets and smartphone will be great for that).
4) if your controller works but without sound on your Android (no usb sound streaming) : use the sound that exits from the audio jack of your tablet/smartphone.

You can't state that mixvibes doesn't tell.

Audio is via headphone using DJ cable. So works for all.

MIDI support is for selected devices only using otg.

So it seems you assume more to be supported than mixvibes does...

Cross uses the mediabase. If it isn't in there it isn't available.
