Is it possible to use the Cross DJ Remote on my iPad as a controller for Cross DJ that is installed on my Mac PowerBook by hooking via a direct usb connection rather than WiFI?
2nd question. Can I listen to other tracks silently in the background on one channel while playing a track live on the other? ( i.e. using my iPad sound card for previewing and cueing tracks while the sound card on my Mac is for playing tracks live).

1/ No, sorry but you have to use Wi-Fi.

2/ What you can do is preview tracks using the iPad's soundcard. To do so open the library and tap a track. You have load A / load B / preview.

You can't pre-cue using the remote because of latency of Wi-Fi.

Will there be a new version in the future for direct connection or Bluetooth. Using WIFI for this app renders it useless.

The app is ment to remote control Cross PC/MAC. Bluetooth has limited reach and bandwidth, USB cable has limited reach.

Whereas with WIFI you can use a present WIFI network or setup a direct WIFI connection between iPad and PC/MAC. More reach and bandwidth and always present...

As mentioned, just curious what's it you are not able to do.

Ultimately I am looking to still use the Mixvibes software but I need a more portable controller for travelling international. I was for the moment thinking the pad remote controller, if connected via USD would suffice but I realize now that previewing and cueing is also not possible by this method.

Why don't you use the Cross DJ app. The easiest to carry on an iPad. If you need to hook it up AND you want to be able to preview/cue you need a dj-splitter cable.
