Audio output query!

Postby m3lvino on 23 May 2012, 02:50

Hi Guys,

Will mixvibes Cross for my new iPad (3) output a stereo signal using the Apple HDMI adapter then going to a stereo RCA input? I would be using a standard male hdmi lead to a 5 male RGA composite cable (obviously, I'm only interested in the left/right audio signal so the other three RCAs would be left redundant, which is fine by me)

Any chance you could answer this before I spend lots of money on cables if for any reason this will not work?

I'm really not a fan of splitting the feed from the headphone socket unless its absolutely necessary. Two monos then going to two stereo sources just isn't a great solution. I know it's the hardware but if this is a possible option then my technics decks better watch their backs!!

I look forward to your response.

Ps - I ask this mainly because it's clear from your demo video on your site the HDMI adapter is clearly being used so I am extremely positive about this possibility. :-)

Good job on the new app by the way, it seems mostly brilliant for a first version - very exciting, looking forward the updates and improvements already. A very decent and best DJ app on the iPad in my humble opinion (I have over 20 yrs of DJ'ing experience and I have tried most of them so hopefully my compliment counts for something)

Hello m3elvino,

yes the sound will output the stereo signal through the HDMI cable, as the iPad does this automatically if you connect an HDMI connector.

Hope this helped,
Cristian

Good to hear. Only asked because I know not all apps are supported with the HDMI out adapter/cable.

Many thanks

Hello Kappa,

Well, I have an additional Question :

Is it possible, that the Master Output (mixed Signal) can be routed to an airport express (airplay) and the Headphone monitor could be still used for PFL ?

That would be great for mixing while sitting in an easychair...

I am also no fan of splitting a stereo signal into two monosignals...

Many thanks 4 any fast reply on that issue, because I would be glad to leave my laptop and my Cross DJ equipment at home, while having BBQ ...

Cheers !

Hello,

unfortunately, this is not currently possible, because of the iPad's iOS limitations, which only allows one pair of audio outputs in software.
That is, if you connect to AirPlay, the headphones will be automatically disconnected by the iPad OS, not by us in our code.

This will change however in iOS 6(coming this autumn apparently), which will allow multi route audio streams.
We will put out an update to add this function as soon as it is available.

Cheers,
Kappa

Dear Kappa,

As time has gone by, iOS 6 is ready to be installed.
But I can´t see, wether the audio-multi-routing is included or not.
Do You have more info about ?

And when do You think will Cross for iPad will be capable using this ?

Currently I cannot see the needs installing iOS 6...
I will wait for more input, also Yours...

Many Thanks and have a good start this monday...

Hello,

iOS 6 does indeed include the long awaited multi routing features.
The update we have submitted to Apple does not, however, take advantage of these issues. This will only be a quick update fixing compatibility issues with iOS6 and nothing more.
The routing options will be included in an update as soon as possible.

Best regards,
K

Hello,

we unfortunately don't have any detailed info on the release of the next major version, as we haven't yet decided which features(from our long "to do" list) will be included in the update.
The only thing I can tell you is it's probably going to be before Christmas, I hope sooner.

Best regads,
