Hello,
when I got my new laptop I optimized everything for high performance and so I deactivated the option that windows can shut down USB ports to save energy (system preferences -> device manager -> USB root hub and generic usb port preferences, energy saving tab).
I recognized that after every reboot the option was activated again. I was stunning because I knew that I deactivated it. This happened again and again without any reason. Today I realized why this happened:
In my energy profile in the advanced preferences there is an option to activate or decativate the usb energy saving utility. This was activated so every time I deactivated it manually this utility activated it again because it recognized it was off.
This might cause glitches if it is activated. My hint is to deactivate this so that the USB ports will never be shut down because of saving energy.
Cheers,
Steve
