i've seen a couple of post about this but not much in the way of how. i'm willing to put together a how to on creating and installing a custome build of windows xp this can come in handy if your notebook is a vista only and you can't find drivers to install with xp or like me if you want a stripped down operating system just for use with mixvibes. if anyone is interested please let me know

Good idea! Are you gonna use NLITE to build your custom XP-install disc? If yes, I think it's possible to export a file with the settings. You could attach the settings-file to your how-to so people could simply take over your NLITE-XP-version (this doesn't affect the registration of XP, it's just about what features would get installed...). I used to have a stripped-down XP which only took like 48 MB of ram (no programs running, of course)... I disabled pretty much all unneeded tasks. This has been quite some work since I ended up with an unstable / unusable XP a few times before I found out what processes are definitely required On the other hand, laptops are so fast now that I'm not sure if this is really required anymore... Would be interesting for using netbooks with MixVibes though.

i have almost completed such a turorial includes a list of un required services, registry edits and windows changes to make xp run smooth
if there is enough interest i can also include custom xp building however from past experince, i would recomend cutting down xp once installed and creating a image of your system
recovery procedure is much faster!

thanks for all your input. i understand computers are more than fast enough for standard windows xp. the main goal was for the people that buy notebooks that come with vista pre installed and cant find drivers for windows xp. i will be using NFO for the custom build and will not enable tbe serial number and automatic activation
abitmessie-if you want to we could work together on a beginniers level how to, or compare config files to come up with a stable and highly compaitble build.

Hi Abitmessie, I'd love to know what you come up with in regards to registry edits and services! I have found a great deal of information on: http://www.nem0nic.com/If you look, he takes the time to explain the Windows Services and how they impact the OS functionality, also with audio.

Hi all, been a long time since i last posted on the boards... Woo, welcome back me! Lol
“The main goal was for the people that buy notebooks that come with vista pre installed and can’t find drivers for windows xp.”
I assume by this you are going to help people find the required drivers for their systems to implement in there custom build of xp?
In early 2007 myself and another mixvibes user set about creating a bootable xp installer disk that would install an optimised version of xp specifically for use with mixvibes... even with vast knowledge of the xp oem there was still allot of research that needed done and ALOT of it came down to trial and error. However we did succeed in creating a disk that not only installed an optimised version of xp but also installed all the required system drivers, mixvibes dvspro and all the drivers for the soundcard with the settings preconfigured. the work done turned out to be quite effective in that my Sony vaio laptop could go from a blank hdd to up and running and playing music in less than 30 mins... all from one disk and an unattended installer. This was all fine and well when it came to my system but due to the massive alterations made to the oem it wasn’t practical to share out to other users for many reasons...
1) There are so many different variations of system configurations that it would not have been practical to even try and store enough driver information to insure wide compatibility with various systems.
2) Over 50% of tweaks made to the oem did not work on all tested systems, clearing out services and some regedits gave massive trouble over different laptop manufacturers, tweaks that worked on the vaio perfectly made an HP system very unstable, some even to the point that it prevented the oem from ever starting.
3) After the tweaks were set in stone the laptop was only good for mixvibes and limited options when it came to transferring music to the system, services such as external mass storage, universal plug and play all had to remain running to ensure continued use of external storage devices however not all external usb storage devices run from a generic driver thus also limiting the device type used.
4) With no network services running what so ever it was no longer possible to activate mixvibes over the internet, we did get round that by working around the activation necessity however we like to keep that a secret and would never pass that information on to anyone else.
5) With it being a modified xp oem, the mixvibes support team would not be able to offer support to the user due to the fact that they would have no way of telling if it was an issue with mixvibes or the actual oem its self.
6) The list goes on but as you can see there are already allot of cons, since then we have moved onto vista gakto build and it is still soooo much work and still with the same cons.
There are many other tweaks and cool stuff in the Xp Mce Gakto Edition V4 that all worked fine for me, but my advice to you is.. if your using mixvibes for anything other than messing about in your bedroom then stick to what works.. i can’t stress enough the importance of running a stable install, playing in a club/venue on a system where you have made changes to without understanding fully what you have altered or the potential consequences may cost a night, or maybe even your job... computers (especially Windows) are not bullet proof, so you have to do everything in your power to ensure that your night is going to end the same way it started.... Pumpin out beats to crowd with the only computer based DJ software worth having.. MIXVIBES!
..!.. ..!.. NO SUPPORT BY PM ..!.. ..!..
