where to select latency in ms with U46MKII?

Hi,

I just got my brand new U46MKII soundcard and so far it's working swell, but I have a question though: Where exatcly can you set the latency in milliseconds, because I can't seem to get to it?

When I was using my Audigy 2 soundcard, I could find the setting in the Mixvibes program, under Asio settings in the Mixvibes program, when I clicked on the Control panel button. But now that button doesn't do anything.

I can set the latency only in the soundcard options, but even there I can set it to only 64 (I don't know what that means, but It's not milliseconds I presume).

Can you help me with this?

Hi mojster_jaka,

To set the latency run the U46MKII control panel. Then run the config/latency menu. There you'll be able to change the buffer size (in samples). For example 512 samples is equivalent to a latency of 15 ms.

Ok, thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

But what do other numbers mean? what is 64 then for example, what latency in ms? or the others for that case?

And another question: can I change the latency with buffer number optin also? Like, if I have the buffer number at the highest, that would be 9, would my latency be lower too?

And if yes, what latency in ms is it if the Buffer number = 9 and Latency option = 64?

I would just like to try the lowest latency possible, so I'm trying to find the ways how to get to it, but i'm don't yet understand all these numbers and settings exactly, cause it's all new to me.

Thanks in advance

Hi ,

You can read your latency in ms in the config report.
Menu > File > Config report

and check the area Sound Configuration you will find the value latency

Sound Configuration
--------------------
Nb Sound=2 Nb Mixer=0
Managment Type ASIO
Device=Hercules DJ Console Mk2 ASIO AsioVersion=0 DriverVersion=11
Latency=8 Driver sampling=44100 Nb Input=2 Nb Output=4
Managment Type ASIO
1-Output 1 2-Output 2
3-Output 3 4-Output 4

Bye.

Ok, thank's a lot to both of you who helped, it's just what I wanted to know.

So i got the latency at 2 ms, I presume you can't get lower than this with this soundard, right?

No 2 ms is already a very small latency & maybe its too small.

Well I don't seem to have any problems with it, not that I wound notice.

There is one other problem though, which I doubt it has anything to do with latency, but I can't say 100%.
For example, when I play a track on the left turntable, and when I put on a track on the right one, there seems to be getting a "crackling" sound from it whenever i play with the right vynil and move it forward and backward. This is hearable if a left track gets very quiet at some point of some tracks, when there's no music.

So even if the right track fader is all the way down, I would still hear this anomaly while playing the left one and playing with the right vynil.

I hope it's understandable, or I'll try to explain more.

You should fix an higher latency like 256 & make your tests with it. Then if it's ok you can try a lower latency. Crackles come from latency problems.

yep that's a typical "too low latency" sign. 2 ms is incredibly low. 5ms is already fine even for a tight turntablist and your system will be more reliable !
