Greek font support - SOS - "Destroyed" ID3 tags

Postby blueandy on 27 Jul 2011, 12:57

Hi!
I' m a professional user of Cross Pack, in Greece.
Lately, I' ve downloaded the 1.6.0 version, which is definitely extremely improved and meets most of my demands.
Nevertheless, there seems to be a huge problem: while importing my mp3s automatically to the new database, the program changed all of my ID3 tags (for the Greek songs) into some "Chinese" type, which of course I cannot understand.
It is a big problem for me, because now I cannot search or do anything at all with my Greek songs and I don' t know how and if this procedure that took place is reversible.
Please provide me a solution, as I spent my money for using this software and hardware and the least I ask is not to harm my existing music database.
Thank you!

Cross supports Greek fonts very well as you can see in my pic.

You have to "drop" your tracks to a mp3tag editor
(i use mp3tag), mark the tracks you want and save them (id tags). That's all. Simple and no more Chinese.

Ok, try this this to see if your idtags are ok or not.
Load some tracks to mp3tag and watch the tags. Are they ok with Greek fonts or they are in chinese. After watch the filename, is it ok? 'Cause if we have problem with idtags probably we can use the converter in mp3tag "filename to tag" so we can fix it using filename.

I imported all my mp3s into mp3tag. The ids remain in "chinese", as they were converted after the last import into the newest version of Cross.
The filenames -with greek fonts also- remained "untouched" from the begging, they were never harmed. But keep in mind, that my filenames contain only the titles, not the artists, as I preferred keeping this information only in my tags.
I tried a lot of things using mp3tag in order to avoid changing them one by one, but no solution.
If could find an automatic way to convert this "chinese" font back to what it was (some greek font, but probably different than the one that Cross "recognizes"), the problem would be solved. Maybe it's a windows problem or a combination of Cross & Windows problem. I use Windows 7, the Ultimate edition.

You did not save tags in Greek fonts so they (tracks) kept chinese fonts and Cross saved what it saw as tags..chinese fonts.
Let's do something now that we know that your filenames are correct with Greek fonts. Please notice that with this way we can correct only what filename contains (only Artists, Track title probably ). Throw some tracks to mp3tag, mark them and make a right clik with mouse and select
-Convert \Filename-Tag and opens a window "Select format string"
-Drop down menu and select how and what do you want to convert (depends on your filename). I choose "%artist% - %title%" because my filenames are: Artist - Track title.

Hope this will help you

Hi, can you send me (via PM) three or four of your tracks that cause problems for you? This will allow us to understand your issue.

Regards.

Back again from my 1st week of holidays and here's what i found:
You are right about chinese tags in Greek fonts but this is happening to 1.5.5 and not to 1.6.
I renamed some tracks with Greek fonts and Cross 1.5.5 reads chinese.
In 1.6 i had no problem.
