iTunes problem (mac->win)

Postby Hannes on 27 Mar 2011, 18:33

Hi,

now that i got DVS and Cross  working quite well on my netbook i wanted to copy my musiclibrary from mac to the win-netbook.

So i copied the music from my mac-itunes folder (only the music-folders) onto my external drive and over to my netbook.

My problem now is that, despite that all my tracks are organized perfectly on my mac-itunes, in Win a lot of stuff is messed up.

On mac my unknown-artist folder contains 30-40 tracks, but now on Windows there are 2000+ tracks in the unknown-artist folder, and when i look at the mp3-tags, they are empty except for the trackname.
no album- or artistname?

I dont get it

I believe it is because the Windows system recognizes only the "main" iTunes library. Please do a forum search, there has been this kind of problem before to different users. Someone from the US solved it as far as I can remember.

Can´t find anything helpful.

my problem is that Windows-itunes doesn´t read the metadata/trackinfo properly.
Everything i organized on Mac-itunes is gone when imported into Windows-itunes.

Example: i have a track perfectly organized via Mac-itunes (trackname, artistname, album, year etc is displayed correctly when viewing the track-information) but on Win-itunes for a lot of tracks the track-information is gone except for trackname.

The Win Mediaplayer reads it without problems though.

I did everthing i know, i changed the paths in the ibrary.xml and now i have my freaking playlist and everything.

But still the metadata isn´t read correctly.
And that´s what i dont get.

In detail: i view a track´s information in Windows-iTunes and it´s completely blank except the trackname. But when i view it in the Windows-Explorer (C:/user/music/artist/track) all the metadata is there, and is perfectly sorted by trackname, artistname, album etc.
WTF?!?!

bcuz they re stored in a separate database (like wavs dont have id3 tags but you can still rename/retag them in iTunes and it will save it to this). so i think you missed copying it
unfortunately i have no idea where could you find it on a mac as im on PC

no offense dude,
but you´re clearly not getting my problem.

the tags are all there when i view the tracks in my music folder via the win-explorer (c:/user/music/artist/track), but they dont show up in iTunes.
So something is going that iTunes doesn´t read the tags properly.

Solved

though i dont know why it happened,
when copying the itunes-music file windows didn´t copy the folder-tree but randomly kept throwing tracks into the unknown-artist folder instead of keeping them in the originalfolder.

Anywho, after the 4th time of copying it works now.
