Apple Lossless Files in Cross

Postby DJ Jeff Neil on 27 Feb 2011, 15:11

I am a new Cross user. I searched the forum for information on playing Apple Lossless files in Cross, but didn't find anything on this topic.

My understanding is that Apple Lossless files are not DRM protected. However, I can't seem to play them in Cross 1.5. (It can't load them and indicates an unknown file format.)

Is this a current limitation of Cross, or is there a way to get Apple Lossless files to play in Cross?

Thanks!

Hello Jeff,

which codec/file format are we talking about? m4a work for me, m4p (old drm protected files) don't.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

The files that can't be played by my copy of Cross are m4a. I know that they are not DRM since many were ripped directly from my CDs in iTunes.

It is encouraging to know that you can play m4a files. Now I just need to figure out what's wrong. Could it have to do with the settings I used when I encoded the file in iTunes?

Thanks,

Jeff

M4A is confusing, it's a container that can hold AAC (often known as M4A...) but ALAC too !

Apple Lossless aren't supported in Cross, no decoder available for now.

The files that I have an issue with in Cross show as M4a and Apple Lossless Audio File (ALAC.) If Cross doesn't yet support ALAC, then I guess my best option is to re-rip the CD but do it either in AAC or MP3 format.

Many thanks for the help on this issue. It's super appreciated.

I would rip then as mp3's. This format plays on virtually every media and audio software, and then you don't have to worry about anything ;)
