I5 or I7

Postby n2ma on 26 Oct 2010, 17:04

Hi guys

i'm searching for a notebook which i would use Djing (Mixvibes DVS 7.2) and music production (Ableton).
Now i'm not sure which processor ist better for my purposes: Intel® Core™ i7 720QM or Intel Core i5-520M. Does anyone know how much cores are supported by mixvibes and ableton?
would it be better for me to choos the one with the I5 or the one with the I7?

Big Up

The Core i7 is a superior processor to the Core i5 but either one will do the job. They are both overkill as far as Mixvibes DVS is concerned but then again I embrace overkill when it comes to computers. If it's just mixvibes you are using core i5 is more than enough.

hi n2ma,
Psykadelik's right; both processors are more than you need for such approach.

Based on dozens of PCs tested in the office :D - a little hint:

Faster cores are better than more cores. E.g. 2 x 3,0 GHz is better than 4 x 2,0 GHz for a single user workstation = DJ ;) ;) ;) ).

Therefore I would choose a fast i5 CPU (1156 socket. most are dual cores) and not a low-end i7 (the 1156 socket ones. quad core) - and invest in more RAM and a bigger screen.
