I tried different mixers and decks, but used the same macbook.
The quality of the decks is above 95%.
Just for your info: a fresh installed macos and mixvibes.

Ok, so now we know that the issue is the laptop.
Only 95% not more ? even with different needles ?
Are you on main AC or battery when the pitch move arround ?
Did you try an another usb port ?

An issue with a regular macbook seems doubtful.
sometimes more than 95%, it depend if I use good needles.
i am on main AC. Encountered same problem with using battery. So in both cases i have this problem.

i always use the same usb port.should i try another usb port?

I don't have this with 3 Macbook :

MacBook C2D 2.25Ghz / 2Go
MacBook Pro C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Go
MacBook Pro i7 2.26Ghz / 4Go

and even with this
MacMini C2D 2.26Ghz / 4Go

so what are the specs of your Macbook ?
I often have issue with these usb ports and they are notoriously known to be a weak point in the Macintosh hardware.

Ok, so you're using... Tiger
I remember we have a bug with this os version in the past (but can't remember exactly what bug it was).
Please update your Cross version to the latest 1.4.

I don't know, I'll try to check on a Tiger to confirm the issue.

EDIT :
tried on a Tiger (hard to find these day) with a C2D 2Ghz Macbook and the only issue I have was to hook my U46 to the usb port (not enough power), but it was ok with an ac adapter.
Down to 96samples : scratching, juggling was spot on and pitch stable on mix.

Hello there,

please let me bump this thread because I have a similar issue.

I have bought a used Macbook 4,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2,4 GHz and 4 GB RAM. The vendor installed the new Mac OS 10.7 on it which ran completely bad. So I did not wonder that Cross 1.6.0 does not work flawlessly on it. Afterwards I have installed the delivered Mac OS 10.5.2 with all updates.
Time to get Cross working - plugged in the U-Mix Control Pro and started playing in timecode mode. Woah! Drop-Outs and crackling sound everywhere! Even with latencys of 20 ms it was hard listening to it because of drop outs. So I unplugged the U-Mix Control Pro and started working with the Hercules DJ Trim 4&6. This audio interface can be used with drivers from the hercules page.

The delivered accu is broken because of its loading cycles of 475 and higher. It was in the Macbook all the time and now I have taken it out of the Macbook to see if this might help.
The macbook without the accu is running at the moment in the background with a latency of 16 ms @ 44.1 kHz, an audio cache of 0% and it is definitely not stable. After every trackchange, when I load a new track into the deck, I get drop outs. I get drop outs when I scratch like hell in the cued track too. This is a good test after every "tweak" I did.

I remember people telling me "Get a Mac and all your worries are gone" - what should I say?

Has anybody got an idea how to fix this? Are there tweaks for Macs? Would a new accu help? I am desperate and if I can not get that Macbook running flawless I will sell it again :-(

Cheers and thanks in advance!

Steve

I have tried and tested a lot but finally I can not get it running flawlessly. In fact it works fine (not brilliant) with a latency of 20 ms but then the vinyl feeling is absolutely awful, you backcue and can hear it half a second later. It appears for 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz and I do not feel any difference.
I will continue testing with the Hercules DJ Trim 4&6 to see if it might work better with that one but I doubt. The CPU usage in timecode mode is around 80% - 95%, if I take both needles from the decks the COU usage gets down to 30% - 40%. Surprisingly there is no difference in using the Tempo and Speed mode - I expected that the empo mode uses more CPU power.
Hopefully my new battery will be delivered tomorrow. A friend of mine told me that hiy macbook ran beter with a new battery in. To me this is not really realated but it is worth a try.

It is this machine with a bigger HDD and 4GB RAM:

More infos soon...
