Do I need to buy a sound card

Hi there,

I have the discover DJ controller and the Cross discover DJ LE. I wasn't expecting to have to buy extra bits as the box says: everything you need to be a DJ (or something similar) and the system requirements do not mention multi channel sound cards. However, from reading this forum I understand I need a multi channel sound card to allow me to cue from headphones (I hope I'm getting the terms rights).

So how do I know if the inbuilt sound card on my laptop will do the job? My investigation so far has only given me "IDT High Definition Audio Codec"?? Does this mean anything to anyone??

If I do need to get a new soundcard then I'm looking for something very cheap - just enough for us to get up and running and have a bit of a play. I don't want to spend any real cash until I know if it's something we're going to get into. I've looked on ebay/amazon for multi-channel sound cards but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. If the sound card is 5.1 or 7.1 is that all I need to know - or are there more things to consider?

Thanks for your help

Jon

  You have came to the right place for info,,past posting have given info to help with this quest   shoudnt be to hard to figure out,,first thing you will need is to find out the info about the sound card installed, is it reconized by the software ,the next thing is to try the installed sound card with the program to see that it can be configured. the next aspect is to read the tut on asio 4all this program will allow you to use two (or more??) sound cards together ,, then download and install said program, a inexpensive sound card can be found, i purchesed the home program back in 2004 and use the sound doggle (usb sound card ) with the Cross demo easly,(for the headphones/monitoring) so what you are trying can be accomplished with realitive ease and less expences.  any questions asked are worth the effort to get it done the right way   hopefully before your sons birthday
