Not knowing specifically your sound card, inputs can be digital, analogic, mic.
On SB you often have virtual inputs that don't have physical connection but if you look on the circuit board, you can see some pins that could let you plug others components. (was like that on SB 64, gold, live, Audigy and Platinium in the past).

What I like to do in Asio4all is shutting off the i/o I won't use.

 tnks for reply support  have installed sound blaster x-fi platium fatality series sound card. has 7.1 capabilitys. has hard connections for digital i/o, line in, spdif connections ,also optical connections. has a audio creation mode that has a mixing key board which has switchable out puts, also a input mixing section  the reconized input avaible in its asio feature are
Mix fl, Mix fr, Mix rl, Mix rr ,Mix rc or sl,
line in/mic r,,line in/mic r
digital in l,, digital in r
line in 2/mic 2 r ,,line in 2/mic 2 r
auxailiry 2 l , auxiliry 2 r
line in 3/hi-z l,line in 3/hi-z r
spdif in l , spdif in r , the question is are the inputs used for the time control of the software,,

Front left / Front right / Rear left /Rear right / Center or Sub
you can't use these because they are only recording the outputs to these speakers.

line in/mic r,,line in/mic r

You must have this input that can be switched from mic to line. If you have 2 mono plugs or 1 stereo, then this is your first analog inputs.
But I don't understand why both analog inputs are line in / mic r, you should have line in / mic l & line in /mic r

digital in l,, digital in r

Could be used if your deck (TT or CD) is output digital so this should be an other inputs but a digital one.

line in 2/mic 2 r ,,line in 2/mic 2 r

This is certainly the second analog inputs, so now you've got both deck.
I still don't understand why both analog inputs are line in / mic r, you should have line in / mic l & line in /mic r

auxailiry 2 l , auxiliry 2 r

This one seem good if it is a line level inputs and usually auxiliaries inputs are line level inputs.

line in 3/hi-z l,line in 3/hi-z r

This is for instruments (guitars and so on) so useless for us.

spdif in l , spdif in r ,

A second digital input.

the question is are the inputs used for the time control of the software,,

We've got 3 an analog and 2 digital inputs.
I can't tell you for sure YES it will work because both of the analog ones seems weird to me.
They've got R & R instead of L & R : we need the stereo for the timecode.
But usually mic are mono so I guess when you're on the line switch each "side" is on his channel.

I don't think you havé 4 mono inputs (2 stéréo) with this sound card.
