mixvibes 7.21 pitch

Postby kram_snd on 07 Dec 2009, 09:09

Hi

I have updated to version 7.21 of Mixvibes DVS but I'm having some problems.

The speed of playback is not constant, once in a while the speed momentarily dips, as if i had touched the turtable platter and slowed it down. The timecode reads 98 - 100% at all times so I know its not my turntables/needles.

This problem becomes much worse when using master-tempo control (which is the reason why I upgraded in the first place!)

I never have this problem in DVS 7.1, which is why I have been using the original version that came on my instalation CD.

I know these problem are due to the 7.21 sofware and not my turntables because when I play a regular piece of vinyl they play at constant pitch. And like I said before this problem does not happen with version 7.1

Another anoying this which happens in V7.21 but not in V7.1 is needle dropping onto the track selector section of the control record.
In V7.1 this was possible at 45RPM but in V7.21 you have to slow the vinyl down (with your hand or press the 33RPM button) for the software to recognise the track selector timecode.

If anyone else has experienced any of these problems please post here. If anyone can help me please do! I have a gig on friday and I would love to have it all sorted by then.

A few questions:

Are the problems that i'm having common? has there been many complaints about the pitch accuracy/master tempo in v7.21?

Will be another DVS 7 update anytime soon?

are the 7" Cross control records available to buy for DVS users? (they would make the whole DVS system fit into a normal backpack, eliminating the need for a record bag)

Do you offer a discount for the Cross software for existing DVS users?

thanks in advance

Hi kramsnd,

I'm assuming the speed dip happens when you're in SPD mode? Which vinyl mode are you using when that happens? The MT in 7.2 has been pretty buggy when paired with vinyl, although usage with MIDI/internal is just fine.

Have you tried ticking the 45RPM box within the vinyl options? I'm guessing you probably have, but it doesn't hurt to check :)

7" vinyls are not available for sale as far as I'm aware of, although I think it's a great idea. EDIT: Concerning the discount, check n-deep's post below.

Cheers,
Phaded

P.S. If 7.1 is working fine for you with the MT, I say use that until the next update. 7.3 Beta has begun, so an update is in the near future ;)

All test done with 7.218

The speed of playback is not constant, once in a while the speed momentarily dips, as if i had touched the turtable platter and slowed it down. The timecode reads 98 - 100% at all times so I know its not my turntables/needles.
This problem becomes much worse when using master-tempo control (which is the reason why I upgraded in the first place!)

Did the test with a Technics mk2 and a CDJ 1000mk3, both were set to pitch/tempo reset and playing the same track on both side.
I also put the Technics side in Master tempo and made a slight phaser effect which stayed the same for 5 minutes long. So the pitch don't move...

I didn't test this one but the 7.218 I took in the updates page.

Any chance there is something else which is wrong on your side ?

Another anoying this which happens in V7.21 but not in V7.1 is needle dropping onto the track selector section of the control record.
In V7.1 this was possible at 45RPM but in V7.21 you have to slow the vinyl down (with your hand or press the 33RPM button) for the software to recognise the track selector timecode.
Right and fixed in the actual beta

A few questions:

Please redo your test with the pitch reset (green light) and the same track on both side.
Also try with different latency setting, too low can cause this kind of behavior.

Will be another DVS 7 update anytime soon?
Can't say (and don't know) when but there is a beta since 1 week and the beta testers are working on it.
