Autorun.inf can contain virus and malware so its just handy to know but if you have already inserted the usb key and autorun has already done its damage
best to disable autorun via the registry or group policy if anyone want to know how to do this let me know

Autorun.inf is the system files that autoexecute itself on bootup (insertion for our usb devices).
On some of them it's just an application to install something or to launch an application (sync, crypt or anything else).
It's also (but not always) a very common usb virus. If you don't have this file autorun.inf, it will infect the device. If you have it, it can corrupt it.
So my advice on this is to create a folder named autorun.inf (yes like the file you have removed or your AV just destroy).
Put in this folder a text file which explain what is this folder for (ie : no boot virus protection).
Now you're safe, the infected computer won't infect your device because in their eyes the device also have a autorun.inf AND the virus don't know how to edit this folder (he only know for files).
With this trick, I have a friend's of mine which computer always crash on insertion of my usb thumbdrive. I told him he was infected and he was...
The virus couldn't write/edit my autorun.inf folder and crash the system.
