For some reason, I've had intermittent problems with Cross and the u46mk2. Is there a preferred usb port to use on the macbook? I constantly get a warning window that pops up saying something like "the USB device is drawing to much power from the usb port...." or something similar to that. I'm guessing this is why sometiumes is a)doesnt recognize the soundcard and/or the vinyl doesnt work. any thoughts?

does it do that with every usb port of your computer?
is your U46 plugged directly into the computer or is it plugged from a hub? If it is plugged into a hub, try directly from the port.
amother related question but I'm not sure... does the U46 come with a power plug? if yes, you can obviously try with it so that the power comes from the plug and not from the USB port.

Good answer, find an AC/9v converter.

yes it happens on both ports. no usb hub being used. I don't have an adapter for the u46. I thought about this, but ideally i'm not looking have another plug in addition to my laptop to deal with for gigs(i'm trying to keep setup to a minimum). I'm assuming that other macbook users dont have this problem and it must be something on my end

well it's strange if you're not using any other usb powered devices.
I've seen devices that would use 2 usb ports in order to get adequate power, maybe you can look for some kind of adapter. although it's not guaranteed that your sound card will work correctly :/
I bet your safest choice is to get a power adapter.

USB power varies depending on the hardware version of your macbook. My advice if you wanna keep your setup free of extra plugs would be to pick up a firewire interface. Edirol FA66 should do the trick.
It's a budget, but the power management of FW interfaces is very reliable with Mac products
