[solved]My little problems

ok I wish I didn't have to open a thread, I searched quite a bit but I couldn't find any positive answers so I have 2 problems that are keeping me from fully enjoying the software.

First of all, my config; laptop is VAIO w/ Core2Duo @ 1.8ghz & 2Go of Ram. OS is Vista Home Premium.

Ok so my first problem for which I have an idea is that the signal from one of my turntable is bad whereas the other is good (>90% steady).
The only difference apart from their position is the RCA cables going from the turntable to the sound card. I bet this is important but I'm not sure. The bad signal is going through the cheapo RCA cable with home made ground wire and the good one is going through some fancy cable that have no ground wire. Any ideas? ground loop problem? I still have to check by switching the cables.

Second problem, the sound keeps crackling... I created a new user in order to reduce the number of background processes which seems to be working. however, when playing songs in Cross, the sound keeps crackling. I played with different latency values but the problem remained. It looks like you would recommend using the Asio4All drivers for someone with a U46mk2 to see if there is any difference. Can I try that with the Rme RPM as well?

Any input is welcome

To me this is a bad quality cable issue... Any possibility to replace it?

Yes you can try with the RPM if you can. But ASIO4ALL driver working great in VISTA.

I'll try switching the cable and see if it makes any difference. Will report consequently.

for the driver part, sorry if I was not clear. I'm currently using the Rme drivers. What I asked is, do you have a chance of getting rid of the crakling sound by giving Asio4All a try? If yes, do I need to uninstall previous ASIO drivers?

Alright. Let me know.

I don't know if ASIO4ALL can handle this soundcard. You should try without removing the previous driver. By the way I'm not sure if the RME RPM is VISTA compatible. Did you take a look at their official website?

but what other options would I have to get rid of the crackling then?

I tried from 512 to 64 samples.

edit: I'm also gonna check that I don't have the master tempo enabled for some reasons, maybe that's the problem

well i checked last night and the Master Tempo mode was not enabled so that's not the problem. I was hoping that that was the problem :(

Do i need to open a thread in the FR section to get more opinions?

Sure. The more opinions you get the better.

does it happen with both decks?
has the possible faulty cable been repaired replaced as posted earlier?

Has the PC been optimized for audio applications?
