Monitoring and Headphones with u46mk2

Hello all, I am a user of DVS 7.21 and u46MK2 with 1.41drivers

Since i dont have any turntables at the moment I thought i would try my hand at some strtaight mixing off the laptop. Im running into some problems with monitoring though. I thought i would be able to just use one output of my u46mk2 to output to my speakers and use the headphones on it to monitor but it seems there is no settings to set what the headphones play out. Is it so that these output only the same as the mix out and that is hardwired, there is no way to change that?

My other option was to use the u46mk2 to monitor and use my on board sound card to output to the speakers, but it seems there is no way to use 2 sound cards at once. I thought using AISO4ALL driver would fix that but even with that I am only allowed to have one active sound card at once. Is this right or am I doing something wrong?

I under stand that I can use my second output and wire that up to my headphones but at the moment I dont have the tools to do that and I want to get mixing. This also seems like abit of a bodge job and i find it hard to beleive this is the only way.

In summary, this specific use soundcard [U46MK2] i would of thought would have this option to monitor through headphones only the channel you want and yeah, i know its not a mixer but cant help but feel it should act like one!

Thanks for listening...

Thanks for your reply.

channels 5/6 wont work for my output, why is that? Surely not because its broken?

So I have done the opposite of what u said, using channels5/6 for monitoring so it doesnt spoil the main out. Unfortunately this means right before i mix i have to switch the channel on the deck from 3 to one so it will play out. I also still hear the main out in my headphones making it harder to mix. Im hoping ive done this wrong but i cant seehow to make channels 5/6 to work as an output, do i need to use aiso4all driver for this??

Thanks

you can set the master output to 1/2 and use 3/4 to monitor..

select your u46 as the output audio device,
audiointerface.jpg

select the channels and change the monitor output to 3/4
outputconfig.jpg

then set the virtual players to output in channel 01.

plug you speakers into output 1/2 on the soundcard and your headphone into output 3/4

you need to use the adaptor that came with the u46mk2, two phono's to the headphone jack thing.
