how do u set the gain function

iam using the auto vol. gain function but it doesnt seem if its working right some of the track vol are to low and other are perfect I no there a lot of justment in the gain option what set up should i use. What are these for (threshold/attack/release/ratio! can someone help me set this up correctly

If yo don't like it then give some LITTLE changes because the mine should be fine for you.

Trigger -20
Treshold -15 ---- -20
ratio 2:1 ( if you give more then do not have good sound quality )
limiter of peaks +12
