MixVibes DVS 7 & CDJ-400's?? ASIO & Buffer??
What would be a good settings set with my current specs?
MixVibes DVS7 & CDJ-400 ASIO & Buffer settings?
Windows XP SP3 - Custom Tweaked PC Studio - Yes old
Abit KT7A-RAID - Nvidia GeforceFX 5600 256MB
1.53 Ghz - 1536 MB Ram - 127GB Harddisk
Hardware:
M-audio 2496 ASIO - 128 Sample - 44,100Hz
CDJ-400 - 64 Sample 1.3msec
I also own a laptop (Acer Aspire 5520-5912 Vista Home Premium)with much higher specs but I am determining what is the best latency & buffer settings for MixVibes to work properly on my Desktop Studio PC wit my CDJ-400's. I am only testing Mixvibes since it's the Demo version but I am thinking about purchasing this program looks rather appealing then Pioneer DJS program.
The response when I hit the buttons is impressive I can't say the same with scratching there is sum hesitation but could be because of my old custom studio setting so laptop might do a better job IMO.
But again I am wondering what would be sum good settings?
currently I maxxed all out the latency/buffer long enough the audio doesn't clip or cut. but for scratching it completely bites too much hesitation but a lil better then Pioneer DJS tho..
any thoughts?
btw I don't have a problem wit it currently works fine for mixing but for scratching were testing it out.
Thanks
Hector

Hi Hector,
Welcome to Mixvibes!
Determining your lowest latency can be very much trial and error as it very much depends on circumstances such as installed hardware, software, audio encoding and ultimately, your audio device and how it is connected to your computer. There is no way for anyone to accurately predict what setting you should use and what your lowest latency should or could be.
For example, my laptop that i use to play in pubs and clubs is only a P4, 1.1 GHz mobile Centrino but together with an Edirol FA-101 which connects via firewire i can achieve a latency of 3ms with no issues at all. However, i also have a DELL Optiplex which is a P4, 2.7 GHz but with the Edirol connected via firewire i can only get the latency as low as 4ms before i notice glitches. The Optiplex is one of DELL’s budget computers and when it comes to audio, it really shows... yet for other uses it is perfectly fine.
The best thing to do is start with a “middle of the road” sample rate such as 48 kHz, then set your buffer size to 512 and work your way down until you start to notice interruptions in your audio... bear in mind it’s always a good idea to have a proper mess around on each buffer setting to ensure that you’re not going to experience any drop outs while playing 2 song concurrently at a higher level of encoding such as 320 kbps, or using your media base and other features.
Also, another thing to note, if you are using Cd timecode control with a DVS system, Cd decks with scratch features also have their own latency, so adding their latency to the latency of your DVS system can become a bit of a pain. Some Denons are really bad for it!
I hope this helps answer some of your questions, but if you do choose to stick with Mixvibes i believe you won’t be disappointed.
Regards,
Bryan

you are using the demo...so
Are you using time code HD-C.D or the MIDI on the CDJ-400's
are we talking about AUDIO latency or MIDI latency
if your using the MIDI
can you test the Cross demo as it also supports the cdj-400 MIDI
to see if you are having the same problem

Thank you so much guys...
Hey Bryan thank you for the informative reply gracias....
I'm still learning the whole MIDI setup.. a whole new world too dis ole school DJ... I started wit Vinyl too Digital now... but in regards I am using the MIDI portion of it.
in regards too Wazza, so yes i am using the CDJ-400's MIDI an I dunno too much too explain on MIDI as I am rather new too this.. but I don't believe it's audio cut off could be a combination of both MIDI & AUDIO latency? lol again fairly new to dis so bear wit me... when the audio cuts off I increase the audio buffer an it's set whats listed 128 sample.
but thanks I was just curious a general settings too start an then it's up too me too adjust too see fit.
I will look into the Cross program altho I did visted an it didn't say anything about CDJ-400 but I will look into it.

Just what are the Pros & Cons???
MixVibes 7 DVS vs Cross??
Could anybody be kind enough too explain the differences between these two products. Right off the bat I can only think the GUI & possibly a different platform which what I am guessing. I have been checking out Cross but since it's the demo version I can't seem too get the CDJ-400 to work for me too test an try it out. I am again rather confused with these two products but I can say I am starting too get even more impress wit MV as a company in general. Not bad an shabby software I say so myself..... but please if you could offer your insights an offer this ole school DJ the layman’s terms to better grasp these newer MIDI/HID programs that are out there in general.
What's the Pros & Cons an maybe other DVS programs so that I can justify my reasonings to purchase MV 7 DVS or Cross because looks like Cross is a newer DVS program IMO.

Oh before I forget one of the features I like about MixVibes 7 DVS is the fact you can record in wav i dunno if you can record in mp3 but I'll check my preferences later too see if I can. And allows me too record my session instead of having too open up my Soundforge program too record my live mixes quite nice if you ask me.... lol

Thank you so very much this is exactly what I was looking for... it does break it down for you... an for me, an now poses a new problem for me... I do have 4 turntables I could possibly use the Pro for 2cdj's&2tt's setup um darn... now a new problem... lol can I purchase either Cross or DVS and move up too Producer if i feel MV is worth using?
is the upgrade worth it?
btw I have been checking out both Cross & DVS an i am stuck between both of these two platforms an I like the simplistic features in Cross for someone like me an my brother's whom also DJ wit me. But I have too admit that DVS seems more versatile in which looks I can get away with more features an I like the fact FREE Updates to me seems more important since I wish too continue using this program if i choose too purchase it.
lol what too choose what too choose.. ha

The full version of Cross supports free updates, I think the pro/con chart should update that actually. You can definitely buy DVS then move to Producer, that's what I did. It's worth it to buy the upgrade if you're satisfied, the extra features make MixVibes even nicer.
