u46 mk2 does not work??

I bought the u46 mk2 sound card. Then i installed it with the cd which was deliverd with the soundcard. However, it does not work well. I also downloaded the most recent driver here (v 1.0.39) but this also does not work

Description of the problem:

the soundcard is not recognized by the computer. When i first install it, it works fine. As soon as i restart my PC, it only shows the task bar icon en has disappeared in the hardware overview of my PC. If i open the control panel of the soundcard, it says u46 v1.0.39 Disable. The panel has turned grey and i cannot move the faders anymore

I have tried various uninstalls en reinstalls, problem stays the same. Also usb ports have been varied to exclude that problem

HELP! Anyone any idea? it is driving me crazy

Thanks for your help. No luck though. Followed all steps. I have the latest driver (u46 v1.0.39) but when i re-istalled and re-booted no changes occur. The control panel stays grey, i cannot move or click anything and it says Disable in the system tray

It also does not appear in my Control Panel/ Sound devices (or whatever the English term may be, mine is in Dutch). It only shows my regular sigmatel card

Am i doing something wrong?

try to turn off your internal soundcard, maybe you´ll need to turn it off in the bios!

i have also disabled all windows sound themes ect. - i use xplite for that, just google it!


other than that i don´t know - strange the tutorial steps didnt´s work?!

also before installing the latest driver you should first uninstall all previous drivers!

Have you tried other XP drivers, or do you use Vista? Make sure you plug the U46 into the same USB port that you installed it in while using it. Also, if you are in Vista, right click on the sound icon in your taskbar, click playback devices. Once in that window, right click on a blank space, click both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices", then plug in your U46 again and let it load.

Also, try plugging in the U46, go into the Device Manager, expand the sound tab, and it should be there. It would help us to help you if you told us what kind of operating system you are using, and any other details you may feel that are useful to tell us.

Lastly, please do not pin blame on the MV team, they are busy people and do try their best to make MV not only a great product, but a great community.

Thanks for all the useful replies. First of all my system:

Dell Dimension 5150 with Windows XP (SP3)
Pentium Duo 2,8 GHZ
1 GB RAM

When taking a look in my device manager, it is not listed in my list of sound devices. Besides, the control panel remains grey, and still not able to slide faders or click anything

I have tried various versions of the drivers. There are some which i downloaded on the forum here, and off course was was delivered with the package. I removed all drivers before installing new ones and followed the manual precisely

I am now 'playing' with turning off the other soundcard , rebooting the system, etc etc but haven't found luck on my side yet. Any idea is more than welcome

EDIT I bought a new cable and replaced the one from the box. Problem solved! But when i rebooted, same problem occurs. Anyone with a good idea? May is should send it back to the store...

Did you let the U46 well detected by the computer? Did you try to plug it on another USB plug?

I cannot have my MOTU Ultralite plugged in when Windows boots, or it does not recognize it. I do not know why - it's as if Windows does not poll the Firewire channels during startup.

It is the same on both my laptop on SP2 with an n-lite installation and my desktop computer with a full SP3 config.

1. Boot to Windows, log in.
2. Turn on MOTU (or plug in FW cable).
3. Load MixVibes.

One last question. As soon as i hook up the soundcard to my PC, the PC reboots Is this because the u46 extracts too much power from my PC??
