The main reason I want to buy a decent audio interface, is because I want to use it for audio production as well as timecode DJ'ing. That's why I want enough in- and outputs, cuz I hate swapping cables.
So I think the Edirol FA-66 will not be suitable for me. And I think I want to connect my monitors directly to the interface. So that means I have to connect my master-out from my mixer to two inputs in the interface again, and sacrifice two extra outputs for my monitors, right? Or am I wrong?
But is it in the first place possible to play 'real-time' music. Can I route my interface so the sound coming from my mixer will directly play to my monitors? I'm worried, because the Edirol soundcards don't have software mixers or other real software to control levels and route stuff..
This is definitely possible. Depending on your operating system, the setup process is different, but you can easily use the first four inputs and outputs of the FA-101 for mixvibes, and then the mixer input can go into inputs 5/6, and can be 'monitored' through 5/6 output, where you would connect your monitors. I can draw a diagram if it helps
So, your DAW/production software can output directly to 5/6, and when mixing you can pass 5/6 inputs to the same outputs. Shouldn't be too hard.
Personally I'd recommend against going through the interface as many times, as you're performing D/A conversion each time. Brightness / quality can be slightly effected, and obviously latency comes into consideration as well. However it's whatever your tastes are regarding convenience or performance.

Thanks Stealthii, that was another thing I was concerned about: latency. I think it's best to use my DJ-mixer as 'main-out', instead of plugging it back in into the interface. But do you really think the audio quality and latency will become much worse when you connect the main-out from my mixer in the interface again?
If I have to connect my computer to my mixer, the thing that I don't like is, is that I have to turn on my DJ-mixer when I'm using my computer..
Well I do have my monitors set up in that way, if I'm using them for general application use I just smack the crossfader to the left and let it play
Yes, putting the sound in and out of your sound interface does the following things:
- Converts from analogue to digital at a certain rate - Converts from digital back to analogue at a certain rate
Which causes the following:
- Unnecessary conversion from analog to digital, and back again - Adds latency
I find myself the process of A/D/A conversion causes music to lose it's brightness, especially regarding high frequencies, and I can notice a marked difference using Cross on 48khz mode compared to 41khz mode - so unless you're using a high frequency rate on your sound card, you'll add more latency, and reduce quality more. Though of course it's up to you, I can't dictate preference

Oke well, thanks man. I really appreciate your help.
I want to keep high quality audio and low latency, so I'll just run all audio through my mixer to my monitors.
Just made my decision, I'm going to save some more money to buy the FA-101, since I might buy a third deck in the future. But one thing, can mixvibes handle three decks?

Thanks.
Some may say that Producer is the wolf in sheep's clothing. It does not look that brilliant to me as Cross looks but it has a lot of features Cross does not support. There is a list with a comparison of the different version where you can see all differencies.

Producer is a fantastic software with 10 years of development in it's background. Cross is too young & needs some more years to have all similar features working.
Okay, thanks everyone! I have still one final question about the Edirol FA-66. If I use all inputs and outputs for timecode in Mixvibes, can I still use 2 outputs for my DAW? For example: Outputs 1 & 2 are for deck A in Mixvibes, but these specific outputs are also outputs for my DAW. Is this possible? Can I use 2 outputs for two pieces of software as long they don't run simultaneously?
