Not every USB-Port is able to supply sufficient power.

btw.: A seperate Power-supply is allways better to get also better sound results. With power supply from the usb-port it is possible that you hear not wanted noises from the pc-fan for example.

Thanks. So what's better; a powered USB hub, or a DC 9volt for the u46?

Sounds like there's something else going on. It's entirely possible that the U46 is bad... but it also might be something on your motherboard or in Windows.

1. How new is your install of Windows? Any spyware or virus protection? All current on your updates?

Most of us find that a fresh install of Windows cures most ailments.

2. How old is the motherboard? Always treated it right, or possibly anything shorted out?

3. Tried another USB port?

I advice you tu use a DC 9V instead of powered USB hub.

Once again thanks for the help.

I re-installed windows about three weeks ago. Immediatley after i installed mcafee, so i guess it should not contain much unwanted programs (regular system scans)

The computer is treated correct. Dust free enviromment, not moved and works perfect besides this u46 problem

I shall buy a DC 9v and see if that solves the problem

Ps, i have tried several USB ports, but i cannot make a solid conclusion based on that. It worked at another USB port, but than 3 or 4 hours later not anymore... Is there a way in which i can test my usb ports?

Ok, here's an update. I resolved my power problem, and the u46 is recognized by windows.

But the most recent driver that i installed (39) does not bring me hope. If i start the driver (bu clicking the task bar icon) it crashes (and asks me i i want to send a report to microsoft).

I have tried various driver versions.

The cables are connected correctly. But if i put on a normal record, and i put my u46 on, i can listen to it via my mixer. I am aware that this might sound a little confusing, but now the u46 just pre-amps the phono signal back into my mixer instead of sending it to the PC.

I have tried severald new installs (according to the manual), reboots and so on. Anyone with a useful idea (besides stop trying)?
