On the internal mixer (upper section), select A/B or Mix, then click on Rec.

Try razorlame, a front end for the lame encoder. This allows you to decode the wav to a mp3 file.

It is a stand alone user interface for the stand alone lame encoder. Nothing to do with mixvibes software ;) But you can have a look in the mxivibes preferences, I can configure different file formats to record.

In the preferences where you can (not) choose the file format there must is a path where your recordings are saved. Open this folder with your explorer and you see the wav file. You drag and drop this wav file into the razorlame gui and press decode. So it is decoding your wav file to a mp3 file that is stored per default in the same folder as the wav file.
If there is no path in the preferences it might be because of the LE (limited edition) version you are using.

Greetings,

Steve

Addition: Have a look at the picture support was posting. There you can see a REC button in the upper left. Press this button and the recording will start. After you finished press this button again and the recording stops. Now you can see the wav file in your selected folder.

Addition 2: which operating system are you using? Mac or Win?
