File Analyzing

Postby djmichaelm on 18 Jan 2010, 04:50

Hello Community!

With Cross, Is there any way to pre-analyze all my files ? The only way I have found is to select all (ctrl+a)the songs in a given collection, and right click....analyze...etc.

Although it does not happen all the time, It is unacceptable to have the glitches I get when loading a non analyzed file.

I'm glad to be testing this at home, not live.

Thanks all,

DjMichaelM

Yep, ctrl+a and right click 'analyze peak/bpm' is the way i do it, and the way most of the users here do.... :)
It is better to 'pre-analyze' than 'on the fly' while you are at a gig. I even do it with the tracks from iTunes library too :right: (i just make a iTunes library 'collection', put my whole iTunes lot in there, analyze, then when i use iTunes to play, all the tracks 'peak+bpm' are pre-stored and dont slow down the PC) :)
Sometimes you do have to do it at a gig, but try to do that as least as possible - its all about preparation bro.
Cheers

Well, right now I am testing Cross on my desktop machine (details below). That is were I have a mass collection of mp3's to work with. My external HD has not arrived yet. When it does, I will be ripping all cd's down to the HD, deleteing Cross on my desktop, and installing on the laptop.

Desktop (older, but does the trick ;) ):

- Pentium 4 2.80 GHz
- 2.00 GB Ram
- 160 GB drive (internal, orginal)
- 500 GB drive (internal, add-on)

Laptop

- AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60
o 2.0 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, HyperTransport™ Technology @ up
to 800MHz
- AMD M690G chipset
- 250 GB Drive (internal)
- 3 GB RAM ( 4 max)

I also get glitches often when analyzing, and playing a track at the same time - so I try to avoid this scenario at all costs if i can. Happened a lot less often with series 1.2.5 . Have tried lowering the memory cache aswell with no positive results.
Seems the 1.3+ series has lifted the Minimum specs of the Cross software demands. :(
I am running probably the lowest spec set up that you can with Cross.

Cheers

@djmichaelm : try to put them in full power energy scheme to avoid underclocking of the cpu.

@hemskoc : it's because the 1.2.5 was too heavy on analyze that we put it in silence mode. And it did the trick during my test : less glitches on low specs computers.

Are you running your medias internal or external ?

I have the desktop in "Always on" mode. Nothing ever turns off. I have not actually used the laptop with Cross yet, but I will remember to change the power scheme to full power or the equivalent. ..

P.s - I forget to mention my Cross version, 1.3.2 using Asio4all
I have it down to about 256 samples (5.8 ms)
