DVS & FA-66

Postby Luramen on 20 Jan 2009, 03:47

Hello,

something is happening with my DVS when I use the Edirol FA-66. From time to time the audio and playback keeps breaking intermitenly, reflected by the lights on the sound interface. I do not have any other programs opened while using mixvibes, wireless is off and the windows perfomance are set to give priority to backgroung services. The FA-66 is set to work at 44KHz.

My Laptop conf. : Intel Core Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz with 3GB Ram, more than enough to move the software without breaking.

I have to say that when using the laptop's sound card, there is not breaking.

Suggestions, anyone?

Hello. What is the latency or buffer settings of the FA-66? Also can you post your config report?

When you say “breaking” i assume you mean drop outs (interruptions in the audio)?

The FA-66 is a firewire (ieee 1394) audio device capable of low latencies using ASIO drivers. By the sounds of things either your latency is set to low for your computer hardware or you still have running processes in there somewhere that are affecting its performance.

To be honest with you, it doesn’t really matter how good the spec of your computer is... if the firewire host controller on your laptop isn’t very good then it will affect the performance of the FA-66. Ieee 1394 host controllers are also network adaptors so shutting down all the network processes on your laptop is a good idea. Also a thing to remember, when running at low latencies the firewire host controller can be very taxing on your CPU.

I have to say that when using the laptop's sound card, there is not breaking.

Are you using an ASIO driver with your internal soundcard?

The standard WDM driver for soundcards have very hi latencies, there is alot of time for audio correction and buffering with these drivers, so any drop outs won’t be noticed unless there is something massively wrong.

Regards,
Bryan

Try Asio4all www.asio4all install it & read the docs in pdf.
I got with 48khz 2ms latency with no glitches. (fa101)
Easy setup, easy learning, a real swiss knife for all sound cards.

Under XP or under Vista, I got the 2 OS on 2 partitions. The limit of the asio4all driver is 48khz. You won't be able to make it works at 88.2 khz or 96khz. Driver version 2.9 for xp & vista (stable release)
The 2ms (96 samples) latency at 48 khz is better than in the original driver (3ms). It's working very well!
Just try it!

So I installed asio4all and lunch the Edirol Audio Control Panel. The ASIO4ALL control panel should appear but i doesn't. Agrrr...
It seems that the latency is 10 ms, but why?? I have set the edirol setup in normal. Below is my conf. report and a link to a video I recorded that shows the issue.

You are still configure to work with the original Edirol Fa-66 driver, try following htis guide on using ASIO with mixvibes.. its for the U46MKII but ASIO works the same way with all audio devices.

try reding from here, "Configuring Mixvibes 7 to work with ASIO4ALL"

try expanding your latency a little, or start right at the top and work your way down...

how much memory and cpu is being used by windows when you are running mixvibes and playing songs?
