Trying to monitor using a 5.1 soundcard

Postby B.W. Bear on 27 Dec 2008, 19:52

Hello,

I've got the DVS pack on its way but I can't wait to start playing around with Mixvibes already. I've got a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 and thought I might be able to try Djing within Mixvibes by using either the centre or rear outputs to monitor.

I've installed the correct drivers for the sound card, and when I run the tests within the creative diagnostic utility (Audio HQ) each of the 2 front, 2 back and centre speaker work fine. However, when I select Multi Channel soundcard, with 5.1 output and the monitor to 2 (center) I don't get the expected outcome. If I try to hear the monitor output by turning the volume on that channel down and then clicking the headphone symbol, the audio just plays out of my front 2 stero speakers as the main audio output would.

I have tried using the rear and front centre speaker options for the monitor as well but I get the same result.

Interestingly, if I select the with Kernel audio interface instead, then the sound plays out of the rear speakers as well as the front 2 (for both the main output and the monitor output), but still nothing out of the central speaker.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is it not possible to monitor with the trial version of mixvibes 7?

I'm not sure but i think the demos only support one output, or they used to anyways... try the following anyways (you would have to do this for DVS 7 anyways).

Download and install this driver, http://www.asio4all.com/

This is universal drivers for audio devices that enables low latency and multiple outputs via your surround outputs, after installation select ASIO mode and setup your outputs to your preference. DOnt forget to select your monitoring output using the bullet selector on the right hand side of the output config window.

if you need help just give us a shout, .

Bryan
