so i can record a on its own and i can record b on its own but to record them together i cant do?

You record the outputs of both virtual player A and/or B.

For recording the mix you need to record the output of the mixer :
- in case of internal mixer, it's easy because the sound has not reach the outside world.
- in external mode, you send A on 1&2 and B on 3&4 then process them into your mixer.
Now where is the sound ? On the output of your mixer
How can you record it ? You can't because you're already outside.

right ok think i understand lol, so how can i record a mix then and process it onto a cd? is that y there is no sound comin out of the laptop speakers when i mix cos of the mixer i need speakers connected to the mixer in order to hear it?

You can :
- record on the same computer with the integrated line-in connector the signal from the mixer or with an other soundcard
- record on an other computer

Like any DJ setup the sound system is hooked to the mixer outputs.
