ION Discover DJ weird problem :(

I use a macbook with my ION Discover DJ. The macbook is connected to my home theatre system via a male to male 3.5 mm headphone-jack.

It used to work perfectly but now when it is connected via this set up, my scratch pads don't work, sometimes they respond most of the time they don't. The play button also sometimes does not work.

Is there anything wrong with my connection or is my discover DJ just defective?

It works perfectly when not connected to the stereo or when I'm just using my headphones.

Should I be using 3.5mm headphone jack that becomes an RCA on the other end?

I don't see the link between and audio connection and a scratch jog not working anymore.
As this is hardware related, the Ion support would be a better help for this...
